Just got back from a dealership and..
I went looking for a possible lease for a 2007 black manual RX8 but I left with a purchase price for a 2006 black automatic RX8. The list price he had for it was $29,425 but he said he'd drop it to $22,995. When I check KBB and Edmunds the price for the RX8 is about 25,000 for the sports coupe. The guy is making it sound like he's giving us an awesome price and we offered 21,000 but he wouldnt budge on it. Is 22,995 a good price or what?
PS - If the dealer who gave me this price happens to look here....

Doesn't say he or she bought it yet. Maybe they did, but seems to me they have a price, now they want to know if it's a good price. Can't really say without knowing all options, but you have the right idea by using Edmunds. Remember that's only a guide though. If an 06 and brand new(even though we are in 07), then he should really want to move it. If he has your number, wait two days as see if he calls. Seriously, wait and see while.

No, I didnt buy it. I just got a price from him and it doesnt seem like he'll budge below the 22,995. He doesn't have our # but we have his # so I dunno...I think we'll go back sometime tomorrow and check it out again. He told us to go to Edmunds and check for ourselves about the price....I dont know why he'd do that since the list price of 29K for the sports coupe is freakin insane.

ohh ok, yea misread it...im not very into the price checking but seems a lil steep to be offering you 2k off the real value, and that its a year "old"...this dealer is definatly trying to get ride of it, and thinks your the guy to use. only but the automatic if thats what you really think you'll want.

The honest sad truth is that I do need an automatic in my area. I deal with steep hills and heavy traffic most of the time. There is really nowhere for me to enjoy the car the way it should be. It's hard but I figure I'll get a manual when I get out of this conjested area and find some nice highways unlike what this part of NJ has to offer.

I was waiting in traffic for the GW bridge in a 6 spd. It was a total horrorshow.
Alll uphill at 4 miles an hour. Must have taken 5000 miles of my clutch
Get an audi, vw or bwm auto you'll be much happier.
Then new altima is also nice for the mpg. etc.

$22,900 for base model automatic? I'd just find a gently used GT manual for that price or probably less. But if you want/need an auto I really wouldn't get an 8 to be honest.

best bet is to go to different dealerships. Walk in confidently and say "im going to buy an rx8. Now im just looking for the best price as the best price gets my business". At this point they have to offer u there rock bottom price. In his mind hes thinking ok. Ill offer him $XXXXXX.XX and no one will be able to beat that so he will buy it from me.
Another tactic would be to say listen, "I found an rx8 and the guy will sell me the car for 21000.00 dollars. Its color is blue but i would prefer black. Overall the price is most important not the color so if u can match it i will purchase the car form u". Hopefully, he will get scared and think that he may be losing a customer and match the price. Hopefully he wont ask for proof but if he does then be prepared to come with an excuse. Another flaw would be that he will say that its a great deal and that u should take it. Then u would feel kinda dumb going back and taking his original offer.
U can also walk away and say "listen, i have 21000 to spend on the rx8 so if u want to sell it to me for that price then heres my number and call me. In the meantime ill be offering this price to several other dealerships. The goal is to make the deal on the spot but if need be just hang tight for a little while and hopefully, if he hasent made money within the week he will contact u as little profit is better than no profit
In any case just play there game cause thats what it is. They are well aware that the value will only decrease the longer it sits on the lot. Good luck.

I wouldn't get an rx8 w/ at .... but if most of your commute is spent stuck in traffic I can certainly see the benefit.

I have to say that I got my 8 (AT) back in december and the tranny is my only complaint. I got the car at a great price (16k for an 05 with 8k mi and a brand new engine from the recall) but I would trade it in a heartbeat for a mt. I drive it in the manual the whole time and long for the 2 extra gears and the extra 30+ hp!!
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DONT BUY AT!!!

If it is fully loaded and brand new, that is $10,000 off what it should cost you in 2006, or a 30% discount already. I'm thinking, what more could you possibly ask for?

its ok, they all have manuals, and autos here mostly sulk around reading posts about clutches which we don't have, maybe in 3-4 years there would be some miracle from mazda to make autos faster than manual, then we'll seee.....MUHAHA
