There appears to be up to $2,000 in dealer incentive if you lease an 05 RX-8 (to help get the payments down and move cars).

In this case, the left over 04 cars may not be a better "buy" to someone wanting a lease. Even with the other incentives ($4,000) the residual is going to be worse on a older car than an 05 for the purposes of a lease. With the extra $2,000 off this puts the 05 is a better comparison with the left over cars.

This also explains some of the nice lease deals folks have posted here recently.

Don't have the Mazda money factor or residual percentages yet - but if I find them I will post them.

Besides, there should be very few '04s left I would think... at least in normal areas.

It was reported by the mod of the lease section over at Edmunds forums.

Working on getting the residual and money factor numbers.

Ha! They are everywhere.

Every dealer in town has at lease one 04 left and several have bunches. Using the locator on the MUsa web page it was hard to find a dealer that did not have at lease one 04 on the lot.

The numbers have been dropping, due to the $4,000 in rebates. Makes me wonder - a lot (all?) of these are lost 05 sales, so I am better this same thing happens later to try to move out the unsold 05s. Unless Mazda cuts production or the dealers stop ordering them.

A dealer confirmed it for me today: $1,000 in customer cash and $1,000 in dealer cash for a LEASE on a new 05 RX-8.

So you make your best deal, then use your Gerber $500, then you should be able to get another $2000 off with this extra money.

Still trying to get the residual percents and money factors - the latter my vary some with credit score. 3rd party banks are only doing 49% on 05 8s on a 36/36k lease - which is pretty poor (and means higher payments).

I was told 0.00320 MF and 50% residual on a 36mo/36k lease . Pretty high MF and pretty low residual for a captivde lease deal. A 3rd party bank will do 0.00215 and 49%. With $2,000 in rebates to go with MAC it works out to be cheaper to use MAC - by a little.

With the left over 04s, a normal finance deal with MAC for 60 months is not that much higher than the lease payments.

So you could pay a little less and have an 05 lease or pay a little more and have an 04 financed. Normally this difference is quite a bit more, but the sucky residual means the 8 does not lease well. The lease is attractive in that you don't have to worry about how bad the resale values will be down the road.....
