Exclamation Lease Question _ Help!

Mazda has a 24month lease (12K miles/yr) deal on the Rx-8 that expires on 10/3/05 on a 2005 model for $299/month. I've been haggling with a local dealer on a loaded MT and got him down to $28K, when I told him I'd want to lease he said sure pymt would be about $468, the $299 deal is on a base no frills model, is this accurate??? This dealer has 15 RX8's in his lot, I am in NJ. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

here this is from www.edmunds.com It is shown as a base 6mt model . Figure for every 1000 over the base price your payment will be approx 20 more a month.

$299 Monthly Payment Calculate Other Monthly Payments
24 Month Term
$2000 Down Payment
$300 Security Deposit
12000 Annual Mileage
Restrictions Lease is based on the 2005 RX-8 with a manual transmission.
Comments Dealer may contribute up to $1,531 towards the down payment for the $299 monthly payment. $2,599 is due at signing. Incentives may vary; see your local dealer for details. Tax, tags and insurance are extra.

Make sure that they aren't hosing you on the interest rate which is pretty easy to do with a lease since they use a "money factor" rather than interest rate. This is pretty confusing to most of us and is probably why leases use it instead of interest rate. Check around on the web for a lease calculator that will show you what's going on in the lease and allow you to convert to interest rate. You can haggle on the money factor as dealers can add on extra to increase their profit.

I'm just catching up on email from the last few days, so hope this is not to late. You can always compare lease prices at leasecompare.com to see if the dealer is trying to screw you over (and many will). You input the sale price, the amount down, and the term, and then it gives you at least five quotes, each with a money factor. If your dealer is way far off in price, and there is not another dealer near you that you can bargain with, you can lease through this website and pick the car up at the local dealer.
