Hi,

I am looking to lease a 6MT RX8 w/o any packages or options. Basically the most stripped down manual car I can find. What are some of the lease deal you guys have had offered ( I did search, but not much specific info) I am looking for downpayment/monthly payment/length/mileage info. I would like to do something like a:

500 down
48 month
12000 mile per year lease
$350/month including taxes.....Is something like this even possible?

I leased mine, was bottom of the line 6-speed also. MSRP was $27,200. Got it for about $25,500, have the HIGHEST CREDIT rating you can have. I had to do a TON of work to get mine for $304 a month (for 48 months / 12000 miles per year) with $5,000 down payment. They wanted like $348 per month with $5,000. You simply cannot do better than this (unless your tax rate is near nothing, mines 8.25% California). This cars expensive, and don't think that calculator will help you find a payment, cause its not even close after taxes, APR, residual value, ect.

Don't know much about leasing, but they occassionally run loss-leaders on RX-8's. Saw Long Beach offer one (5 actually) for $22,900.

I leased mine which is the manual with everything except NAV here is how it broke down for me

12,000miles for 48 months
negative 1000 in trade

I think it was for around 32k, but with a lease i think it was only like 18k for the length of the lease.

for about 387 a month. Leasing was the way to go for me because this car is not my commuter (i have a company mini-van I can drive for whatever I want) I've had the car for almost 3 months and just went over 2k miles so it's just a toy for me. If you plan on driving it alot or modding it I wouldn't think leasing would be the best option. But if you are like me, it's great. And I have the option to buy the car for 16k or less when the lease is up, and if you add it all up togethor it's still not over the original purchase price so it's no harm no foul. Just be sure to keep up on your maintenance and tires cause they ding you big time for that if you turn the car back in

Once again, I can't emphasize enough that you don't want to go in to leasing thinking of the payment -- the process is IDENTICAL to purchasing a car initially (i.e., negotiate a purchase price), only the formula to compute the payment is different (from a purchase).

I think they were referring to the dificulty of giving the car back because it is so much fun to drive.

Ah... I thought maybe he had a really bad experience (I've heard of a few) when returning a leased vehicle.

I was reluctant to lease the first time I did. I thought I'd maybe have trouble with the return. I'm not really all that rough on cars, so everything went fine.

I didn't lease the '8. I paid cash since I couldn't get a good lease deal through the factory (MAC) because of the newness of the car at the time (last July). At least that was what the dealer folk said about the lease rates (as if they always tell the truth ).

I don't typically keep a car past its warranty (except my pickup but that doesn't count). So, I'll be parting with my '8 in about 3 years when the warranty expires. I'm hoping they have a convertible '8 at that point and I'll get one of those.

Given all the information I have seen, $350ish a month over 48 months should not be as hard as it may have been before. Especially now that the factory is offering $1500 dealer incentive to prospective leasees. The key to leases are knowing all the numbers involved....here's my example of how it could be possible.

MSRP of $27,200
Sale Price (Base Cap Cost) of $24,200 (give the dealer $500 profit)
Overall acquisition costs $1000 (deposit, fees, etc)
Residual Value $15232 (seems people are getting 56% residual over 3 years)
Money Factor .00208 (5% seems realistic with great credit)
Tax Rate 8.25%
Monthly Payment of $390.77 for 36 months

So going with those numbers and playing with the term and the amount put down, I can see $350 as an attainable payment over 48 months.

TownDrunk -- when I leased a '99 RX300 in October '98 (they came out in March '98), the residual (39 months) was 68% -- no typo! I don't know what they were thinking!! It made the negotiations to purchase the car after the lease a bit harder (it was worth no where near the residual), but after a bit of haggling, I purchased it for less than the residual. Then again, a 68% residual sure makes for a lower monthly payment.

I wish I remembered what they told me for the '8... Something like $2K- $2.5K down, $450/mo (with tax) @48mo 12Kmi. A bit high I thought. I don't remember what the residual was that they were offering. The problem was I had to start from full MSRP because of the timing.

Since I don't really care to own the cars I lease when the lease is up I like the higher residuals so I don't have to pay as much.

Understood ... I didn't think I'd purchase the RX300, but I ended up doing so. I'm back to purchasing cars now ... I drive too many miles to lease ... but I would sure enjoy having a new car every three years or so!!

You are certainly right-on regarding residual .... the MDX you have should have a nice residual as well (I heard they were selling at or close to MSRP for a couple of years AFTER introduction -- hot car!).

Thanks guys...I'm going to see a Titanium 6MT after work today. I've been told they could do a :

$500 acquisition fees
48 month
12000/year
$350 including taxes

Negotiated price was in the low $24xxx range. MSRP is 26680. All I have left is to uninstall the sound system on my current vehicle, drop it off at CarMax (giving me good money for it), and go get my new 8!!

Can't wait.

3. Went to dealer place and they said it's typo on newpaper but they offer me $550 down, 12000mi/48 month lease, $341.88/Month. The car already has 100miles on it.

4. I took the deal although I did not feel very comfortible for what they said "typo".

Thats a good deal. I couldn't get the $350/month payment I was looking for but I did get it for $370 Not too bad of deal. I'm happy with it and thats all that matters. I never thought I could get into an RX8 for this price. Got rid of my 2003 Harley F-150 which was not only alot more expensive, but was killing me at the pumps.

Im not sure if this is the way it is any where else... maybe cause we are the motorcity... LEase prices are so low here. Its cheaper for me to get a 4 year lease then to buy it with 6 grand down... The lease price i was quoted here with 2000 down 48 month lease for mt trans g/t package red/black leather seat, rear spolier, body effects kits, silver accents was 317 a month. no idea what the sticker is on the car? or ne of the details but with 2000 down mt trans stock was 280 a month.
