Leather/Moonroof
Hey all
I'm new to this club. I have been wanting to upgrade to a sports car because I have gotten hooked on going out to the track. I test-drove the 350Z. I tried to drive the Suburu WRX STi, but the dealership does not offer test-drives unless you want to sign on the dotted line. I have been intrigued by the rotary engine and had read about the Mazda RX-8. So I drove one of them. I love the car. I will probably buy in the next year or so.
I have been disappointed by the fact that you cannot seem to get leather in the car without the moonroof. Has anyone gotten around this. I have had T-tops that have rattled and leaked. I have had a sunroof whose controls sometimes didn't work. I don't know about the moonroof, but I figure that a hardtop would have the least problems.
Has anyone had any problems with his/her moonroof on his/her RX-8. Do you believe that it is worth it to have a moonroof?

No problems with mine at 11,000 miles.
I too wanted leather, so I selected the Grand Touring option, reffered to here as "GT". There was some seat adjustments that I had to try because my head would sometimes hit the ceiling do to the moonroof being there. I have the seat just perfect now, so I am a happy 8 driver now.

I didn't want the moon roof either, but I wanted the GT package. I ended up getting the GT because the idea of aftermarket leather wasn't appealing to me.
I'm 6' and have no problems with the moon roof, but I seldom use it... maybe winter time in FL I'll start

dude if you like going out to the track skip the touring and grand touring packages. they just add weight that would be detrimental on the track. second the cloth seats are way grippier than the leather again better for the track and even just day to day "enthusiastic" driving. so for you i suggest the sport model or if you dont care about DSC then get the base 6mt. all the get up and go with less weight. you can save the extra money for more go faster parts or show parts to add later

Serously Considering Sport
Yeah, I have been considering that. I have always liked leather for all-around driving, and I tend to move my seat around at different times, so GT appealed to me for day-to-day. I probably will only get out to the track 4 times a year anyway. I am 6'2" and I will wear a helmet on the track, so it's something to consider seriously.
Thanks for the insight!

Get the sport package if you don't want the moonroof. You can always get aftermarket leather later if you want. Added bonus is that with the sport package, you have no Bose sound system which is harder to upgrade than the base.
