Is it my imagination or...

has the mazdausa.com website dropped all '04 rx-8's from the dealer inventory? I searched this site regularly until I bought mine last Thursday (great car!) but when I looked today just to see what '04 stock was left, none appear. What's up with that? That site was invaluable to me in locating a leftover '04.

Nope, they did drop them from the site. I read it in another thread.

Just check some dealers I KNOW have 04s and they no longer show up on the Mazda page.

I wonder what is up with that? They can't sell them if folks can't find them.

Maybe they are calling them back in and going to re-VIN them as 2005s :D

(starting a new rumor that is not true)

They may not be on Mazda's web site, but dealerships' online inventories still list them.

I think this is typical auto manufacturer end of model year inventory shuffling. Every car manufacturer at some point wants their previous year's inventory off the books, and transfers them to the dealerships, often with a hidden incentive to the dealers to get rid of them. This might be a good time to pick up an '04!

Also, it's only about fife months for the 2006 to show up, so it's probably not a good marketing argument to have 2004, 2005 and 2006 models on the manufacturer's website... Particularly for their flagship.

Therefore I guess they want to create the necessary "time gap" here...

Dumb move though, really can't sell them if we can't find them.

Maybe dealers who had sold their 04s were complaining about missing sales since folks could easily find an 04 cheap at another dealer and bypass paying more locally for an 05?

I just got myself a 2005 Grand Touring on Friday and I mentioned to the salesman that I had a buddy maybe interested in a 2004. He had a couple on the lot, but was going to do a search for me. He couldn't pull any up, so he was thinking it was a glitch.

There really would be no sense for Mazda to make that information difficult to get because they still need to sell those cars. My money is on a glitch.
