My new '05 arrived this past weekend... Finally!! =)
Hi Everyone,
After waiting 4, endlessly LONG months, my 2005 RX8 FINALLY arrived this weekend! =D
[Black, 6-Speed MT, GT, Black/ Red Leather, Rear Wing, Rotary Accent, Navigation, 6-Disc CD/ Cassette, Shock Sensor etc.]
This is my first rotary, so I'm excited to join you guys and begin learning the ropes of caring for this unique & wickedly-awesome ride! Hopefully, I'll get some pictures up soon... Thanks to everyone who's shared info here, as it's been really helpful to me throughout the purchase process.

Detrich,
CONGRATULATIONS!!
That is almost the exact same set up as I ordered recently! You'll definitely have to post some pics as soon as you get a chance.
Also, remember the break-in procedures...must resist the urge to really open that engine up.
Also, there are a bunch of meets in our area; Malibu Cruz, weekly OC meet, etc that you should check out as well.
Again, congrats! Can't wait until mine arrives and I can post a similar thread. :D
P.S 4 months?! why so long to get it in?

I was ready to buy back in January 05. But, this config was impossible to locate in So Cal. And, the plant fire in Japan meant the Mazda factory wasn't accepting orders until late March 05, which is when I put my order in.
RX8 prod'n resumed 2nd week of April 05, my car was completed mid-April 05, it spent a month on the Pacific Ocean, and it arrived mid-May 05.
So, from start to finish, I waited 4 months... But, for you it should only be about 2 months- since prod'n resumed back in April 05.

HA!! FINALLY someone else who believes me about how hard it is to find that combination! :D
I'm glad to hear you finally got your new RX8.
My order was sent to the dealership on May 9th so like you said, it should be a month or two before it gets here.
THANKS for the timeframe estimate...
For now, I shall live vicariously through you :D

California Dust Buster?
Thanks Jedi! =) Can you explain a bit more on the California Dust Buster? Is it a pressurized air-blowing device or how does it dust without scratching? I definitely want to get one if it's safe.
Yah, I have to say that I'm REALLY happy w/ this color combo and options. The fact that it's so rare in So. Cal makes it just that much cooler. I have no doubt that you'll absolutely love it when yours arrives.
I was originally going to get the Appearance Package also. But, since I had to wait so long, I would go to the local Mazda dealers on the weekends repeatedly and just look at different RX-8's and compare/ contrast things. And, one day- I dunno how or why because I thought that I was set on the body kit- but I just suddenly realized that I actually liked the natural lines of the car more. Maybe seeing the Shinka is what swayed me, because it basically looks black until you get up really close and then see the purple hue. Anyways, as soon as I had my revelation (sorta say), I contacted the sales manager that put in my order and he said no problem and unchecked the Appearance Package on my order and printed me out a new PO copy. After that, I decided to put it down and stop thinking about it... Hehehehe.
So here are two things I learned. First, so long as the car hasn't been manufactured yet, the dealer can still modify your order- even after it gets placed and accepted, so long as their computer system shows it as black and not grayed out- meaning they can still check & uncheck options. The amount of time depends when the estimated build time is, which will be listed on your copy of the PO when you place your deposit for the car. If you are at all not sure about any option (ie exterior options etc.), don't hesitate to go to the dealer and look at the cars repeatedly and make sure you're absolutely settled on what you want. I probably tormented the weekend sales staff to death, because every time I went there they had diff sales guys there thinking I was a walk-in buyer. (LOL). It was actually quite funny.
Second, I noticed that the engine definitely is a bit tender when the car is new. My car had 3 miles on it at time of delivery. And, initialy it didn't sound very smooth. I've put about 80 miles on it now- following all the "babying" procedures outlined by the manual and what the guys say here. And, it's definitely gradually sounding smoother.

P.S. here are some more pictures. I actually took a bunch, but just needed more time to size them right to post here. =)

The 8 has a Mystiqe to it. You really don't know till you get up close. It is a
different car!
I have 05, just take it easy for the first 1000-2000 miles. Change your oil often
after break in. Then you can let her go! This engine is awesome! Secondary
ports open at 6200 rpm and will redline to 9000 +. All i can say is enjoy the
Renesis.

Hey Detrich,
You'd be amazed at how simple the California Car Duster is! Here's a link fo you
http://www.californiacardusters.com/...carduster.html
Wow, why must you torment me so with even more pictures of your car?!
I know it's going to be at least another 30 days before mine arrives but I can't wait!
I've been wanting this car for about a year so I've gotten a chance to meet my share of Sales Guys at the local dealerships. :p
Mine will have the appearance pkg so it would be cool to some day get side by side pics of our cars.
Tick Tock, tick tock...

Car Washing/ Duster
Hey Jedi,
I did some more research... Turns out that dry dusters- in general- are not a good idea.
I found this Mr. Clean dry-less cleaning car wash system for $15 at Target. I tested it out on my hood, and I was amazed how it works. However, there is a catch...
They don't give you enough product- ie the filter & soap run out- with the starter kit. So I have to go back and buy more of it to really get a full, complete wash. Right now I got left w/ water spots, so I'm ancing until this weekend so I can re-wash it- properly.
You basically rinse, soap up, then rinse, then special rinse (with a special filter that removes minerals & de-ionized the water). And, then u ust let it air dry. And, holy cow- it looks as tho the car's been waxed and you don't even have to dry the darn thing- which for sure would reduce scratches I'd think.
Black is still the best color for that racing shine...

The Mr. Clean Auto Dry system RULES! I've been using it on my other mazda for like a year now. I'll never go back to using towels again.
When you're doing the 'spot free rinse', don't be shy with it. I never actually get the 10 washes out of a cartridge that I'm supposed to. I get about 6, maybe. :D
I do recommend doing the windows afterwards though. I use Eagle 1 20/20 window cleaner and it works great, even tinted window friendly.
Once the car has been waxed (or zaino'd) you can use the car duster without any worries about it scratching.
Here's a thread on the duster: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...3&page=1&pp=15
and YES, Black is the BEST color! (especially with the red interior) :D

Cool. I can't wait to get more Mr. Clean Friday after work and then wake up early Saturday to beat the sunlight and get my car all shiny again.
Did the dealer tell u if your order got accepted by the factory and what the estimated build date is yet?
Thanks!

I love the Mr. Clean Autodry! I thought like most of the do-it-yourself car washes it was a waste of money but, having bought one I am now a believer. It's clearly a good investment.

VIN will be available in a few weeks but delivery isn't expected until LATE July or most likely early August!
I'm kinnda bummed that it's taking so long but I know it'll be worth it when she finally does get here.

turns out detrich and I wanted similar set ups which were nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find in CA.
Trust me, it was not for a lack of looking...
Besides, after I found vehicles in CA or nearby states, they all had too many miles on them already.

TOTALLY!! =)
OK, I know I'm a total dork for saying this... But, I've been enjoying just turning down the stereo and listening to the sweet hum of the rotary as I cruise around town on the weekends.... hehehehehe. =P
Still, the 10-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system in my '99 BMW 323i totally kills the premium 9-speaker Bose system in the RX-8. The Bose cannot even touch it. But, in all fairness, Mazda really isn't a luxury car manufacturer. And, we all know the Germans design the acoustics & sound system of the BMW cabins down to the point where you can hear a pin drop. So, I never expected the RX-8's sound system to come anywhere close to the BMW....
I prefer listening to the sweet rotary hum anyways... LOL

Wait... RX-8 has a 9-speaker bose system?
Congrats on your new car! I myself personally love black... but after seeing white in person and thinking about taking care of a black car... hehe, I had a change of heart. ^^
Congrats again! It looks great~

No worries at all... You probably have the number already from Mazda's web site:
"If you would like help locating a specific RX-8, Mazda's Friend @ Mazda
Team can help get you behind the wheel. Contact our team directly at
(800) 639-1000 or friendatmazda@mazdausa.com. This is a totally free,
totally friendly service! Give them a call... they're always happy to
help."
There is a guy there- Todd Orowson- who helped me. He's very thorough and on-the-ball. I would ask for him specifically. They are in Irvine, CA- so in our time zone. (My actual name is Gerry, so he probably remembers me w/ that name.) I'm going to write a thank you letter for his help. Just been so busy lately that I haven't gotten around to it. But, if he asks- I haven't forgotten and will be sending it soon so his boss knows what a great job he did.
