NEW 05 mileage???
What would you say was acceptable for a new 05 as far as mileage is concerned? I realize the lower the better but what is reasonable? Thoughts---

I was pissy when I bought my 05 in Nov, it had 75 miles. But maybe I'm too sensitive. Considering how they let people do test drives in these things, I would surmise to say no more than 300 miles.

Why put the cap so high at 300 miles, Skythe? If the car comes off the carrier at the dealership with 2 to 4 miles typically, do you feel comfortable that it's been test driven tons of miles by who knows who? I'd be willing to bet my bank account that if the miles are higher than delivery that it's been redlined numerous times. Afterall, who buys a sports car and test drives it like a little old lady?
And if it has been ragged on, for say 2 or 300 hundred miles, what's the point of then breaking it in gently (per the manual)?

I can't answer your last question cuz I don't know, what is the practical purpose of breaking in a car that has clearly been driven in a manner that is incongruent with "proper" break in guidlines. Did I follow the break-in precedure and not drive it like it was meant to be until breaking 1K miles? I did. Should someone who's buying a car with 300 - 500 miles already on it from test-drives? I guess he or she should just for the sake of following what's in the manual to protect themselves from losing warranty coverage.

Mine had 90 miles on it and it was sitting in the show room, out of the Florida "elements"......I drove another one on the lot, but not the one i bought. I'm totally happy.

I don't think Mazda would know whether you finished out the last few hundred miles of the break-in properly. If there's truth to the proper break-in spiel, then the damage has long been done, whether there's 50 miles or 500.
Just sucks to think of the unknown when surmising about the history of your own car. That's why new cars should remain "new", and each dealership should have a demonstrator for purposes of getting ragged on.
