New 05 now? Wait until March?
Here's the situation. At this point I have enough money to purchase an RX-8 new. I test-drove and did some numbers with Galpin Mazda in SoCal and they wanted a bit too much (29.4k after 1000 MAC - Pearl white, GT, spoiler). I have researched RX-8 along with competitors and am sure of the decision. My question is, would it be wiser to wait a few months for the 06's to hit the lots allowing the 05's prices drop even more drastically? If that is done, however, I fear my selection will limited considerably more. What would you guys advise? Would have felt so nice to drive home in the new 05 but now I'm in this quandary. Will most likely tough it out 2-3 months and see where I'm at.
Side note, I forgot who said they had 30 days free carfax, if anybody knows would you mind posting whom it is? Pre-owned 05 GT w/nav 2,300mi looking mighty tempting

If I were in your shoes I'd wait a little. Don't worry about the selections, these cars aren't exactly flying off lots right now.

Also, You might be able to find a great deal on leftover 04's right now. If you really wanted the White then you'll have to go with the 05. White replaced the yellow on the 05's.

If that's the case then I'd find an '04 with all the options you want and make the dealer an offer.
You may be suprised at how much you could save.
Or maybe wait until just before the '06's roll onto lots and I bet you could find a great deal as well. Just depends on if you want it now or you can wait and how much you really want to spend. Just my opinion of course.

ah, another quick question. Say I was to purchase an 04 from a different dealer that is no way connected to mazda. Would the car have the recall items replaced? If not, would it be as simple as taking to the local Mazda dealer to get them replaced? Just so damn excited about the RX-8 :D

Not necessarily. Some here still don't have the recall work done yet. You could get the VIN and call Mazda headquarters to see if the recall work had been performed. Normally there should be documentation on the car. Check for a sticker under the hood or drivers side door jam to find it. My dealer did not apply the sticker but I have documentation that it was done. Not too sure if Carfax would show that or not. You could also print-out the recall info and see if the original(non-Mazda) dealer would take it in for the recalls before you buy it. Might save you some headaches and running around later.

Here's the recall letter owners received. (PDF) Recall letter
Here's the repair procedures. (PDF) Recall Repair Procedure
Get the VIN(s) you are interested in and check them with the recall info above. Your car may or may not qualify for it.

Another recall on the 04's. Again check the VIN(s) to see if it's applicable.
Owner Letter(PDF)
Front Lower Arm Ball Joint
again it's PDF format.
Ball Joint Repair Procedure
It really doesn't take but more than 2 or 3 hours at most to do the recalls. Nothing too serious. Mostly just precautionary
Good Luck! Let us know how things go.

Depends on your financial situation. If you have the money and dont really care you should go ahead and buy one asap. No use waiting. If you wanna save maybe a couple of grand more you could wait another couple of months. Dealer cash is 1500 for Jan too. 04's in 05 had 4500 dealer cash. Im waiting for numbers like that before I go and pick one up. And yeah as tigerlee said the RX-8 aren't exactly flying off the lots.

Well I've come to a decision. Tomorrow I'm going to check out as many pre-owned as I can. If I don't find anything satisfactory, might as well wait for the cheaper prices. Yeah, I could afford it now but hey, why through away the money? Could always be used for something else. Oh and thanks for the advice guys.
