NJ Insurance?
In OC, CA my car insurance for my RX-8 and MPV was about $2,200 per year (I had four tickets in 18 months; prior to moving to OC myrecord was spotless for 10+ years).
Now that I'm moving to NJ, what can I expect? I hear insurance is much higjher...
Any recommendations?

If you have a good driving record, get in touch with NJ Manufacturers Insurance. Your company has to be part of the NJ Bus. & Ind Assoc. Most companies in NJ are part of this and if you ask around your company people will know (they say to check with H.R.). My insurance with $500 collision/$200 comprehensive is $1150/year.

FWIW - I have Prudential in NJ, and am paying just under $1100/yr (for the 8) which includes $500 deductable, 50k prop 100k/500k bod liability. However, this does include a multiple car discount, and additional discount for having homeowners ins w/them.

Viggen,
If you have any negative marks on your record (accidents, tickets, etc) AND/OR your employer is not registered in NJ, NJM will put you into a rated tier of their NJ Re-Insurance Co. You have to stay with them for 3 years before NJM will take you. This is what I had to do, after I got into a minor accident (50% at fault) and my NY insurance carrier (State Farm) found out that I had since moved to NJ. They wouldn't insure me in NJ... period. Not because of anything other than the fact that State Farm is not taking any new policies. Few NJ carriers will, nowadays.
Liberty Mutual and AIG are also supposed to be good... but both told me I'd have to wait 3-4 months for coverage. NJ RE was the only one who would cover me w/in 2 weeks.
I had a perfect record, albeit with this accident (only one in 15 years). I went from paying $1200/year in NY for a Jeep Grand Cherokee w/loaded coverage to $2880 in NJ. They "rated" me because of beginning my policy with an accident. I paid that a year (had to)... and at the end of the year, I inquired about a policy on an RX-8... same coverage... $3200/yr.
I did not buy the RX-8 yet, and since my year anniversary, I got a few percent discount for no accidents/tickets, and a 20% or so discount for my anniversary. I also raised my deductibles from $500 to $2000, and am now paying $1550/year. I would expect a policy now on an RX to be significantly cheaper.
My advice: Check into AIG first, but NJM is good... go to NJ Re-insurance, wait out the 3 years and get yourself a radar. Keep your deductibles high (high deductibles have the strongest effect on rates). Read the policy handbook carefully, and choose wisely. Don't skimp on uninsured coverage, though. It's not too expensive. The first year will suck, but it gets better.
NJ is raping new insurees because they're not charging enough to current risky policies. Plus, there are just too many cars and too many bad drivers.
