No more Capital One for Private Party/Non Franchised auto loans... now what?

Effective April 15, 2008, we also no longer finance lease buyouts, motorcycles or auto purchases from individuals (private party or person-to-person auto sales).
I've only used Capital One, and I love how easy it was. Much to my dismay, when I was trying to figure out some FAQs regarding a loan, they put in this new policy effective today!

Since Capital One won't do private party sales, and a car that I'm looking at is owned by a private party, any suggestions on who to finance from? Looking for positive experiences with an easy way to pay online and a decent APR for used vehicles (6-7%).

Thanks,
Jonathan

My Capital One experience has been flawless so far and I was really surprised at the rate I received for having very limited credit history when I got the financing.

Same here, not sure why Razz1 is so upset about Capital One. Care to share your experience?

For the record, with my limited credit history and young age when I financed (20 years), I was surprised at the rate I was provided too. 6.6% isn't too shabby.

Also, with an extremely easy payment method, fast approval, fast delivery, and flexible check, I don't see whats wrong with it.

I don't consider that a tragedy. Capitol One is terrible. They train their phone people to straight up LIE to you about removing charges, increase interest rates out of the blue, charge annual fees on supposedly no annual fee cards, sign you up for "services" which are in fact hidden fees, etc.

Also, the CEO is on the Board of Directors.

I love Capital One. They gave me the best interest rate on my motorcycle loan. I have a credit card too, one time my payment was late and they removed the late fee. They've also lowered the rate twice for me by a point... just had to share... they really treat me like a good customer.

Try them. This is probably who I'll go with if the dealer and I can come to an agreement about my trade.

My credit union offerd me a car loan and told me how much I was allowed to spend and I wasn't even shopping for a car (?). I don't have any experience with Capital One but credit unions, in general, offer a good alternative.

This is flat out misinformed.

The capital One blank check program is one of the best financing optiosn available. Tehy have "reasonable" rates(not the best, but close enough. The program has MUCH more flexibility then ANY loan out there. This is indeed a tragedy that it must now be a franchised dealer. My experience with Cap One is TOP NOTCH, especially with the Blue and Green checks.

BTW, I was a finance manager at multiplle dealerships over the last 5 years, Mazda and otherwise, with immaculaate credit. When I bought my 8, I used a black check to frinance "up to" 150% of Nada Trade for 72 months in the low 7% range(on a 3 year old vehicle). Most credit unions at the time were in the 6.99% range. A quarter-to- half a percent is PEANUTS over the long haul and the flexibility afforded to me with the blank check was immeasurable.

I'd recommed credit unions, Roadloans.com(if credit issues)...
