Ordered Out 7/8/04, not even started!

Mazda must be busy cranking out the year 2005 RX-8s because I've ordered one 3 weeks ago (July 8th) and my dealer just told me that Japan hasn't even started on it yet! The order is still in their database. I wasn't sure if I was getting an 04 or 05 until now, I guess I'm getting an 05. I don't know how they allocate their production but you'd think they would serve paying customers first instead of working on dealership allotments, or am I wrong on that? I know the first buyers of the 8 had to wait around 6 months but I was figuring that this car is along far enough that the waiting list has dwindled a little bit. I'm sure as hell not prepared to wait that long. Oh well maybe by the time the car ships I won't hardly have to finance it. :p

Well, the salesman left a message on my machine. "Car's still on schedule to be built. Check back in 2 to 3 weeks." It's been a month and no progress. I should have known that the 8-12 week figure was bogus when I handed over my deposit check. Oh well, just watch them call me to pick it up at first snowfall.. with no snowtires.. ugh! :D

HELP ME THE WAIT IS KILLING ME *CROOOAAAAAAAKKK*

LOL, the wait will be well worth. Painful, but worth it. Ther dealer should let you take one out on a test drive whenever you want...

I feel your pain, man. I ordered mine late in April. The dealership told me July/beginning of August. I saw my car pop up in the dealer inventory on the Mazda website two weeks ago. So, I called them and they said, "yeah, the car is off the water and on the truck. But, uh, we have no idea where the truck is at. It is lost." Lost?!? How do you lose track of a truck full of cars?

Anyway, the car finally showed up yesterday, BUT the front bumper is DAMAGED. ARRGH. Son of a... Right now, it is sitting on the dealer's lot with a broken nose waiting for a replacement and waiting to install my Mazdaspeed spoiler instead of sleeping in my garage. Sooooo close...the agony is killing me.

Good luck and stick with it. I'm hoping, like cgrx and countless others have said, this car is worth the wait.

Ouch, that's a real bummer about the bumper! How do you look up inventory on the Mazda website? My dealer didn't say anything about being able to do that, of course they don't have their own website either.

Ah nevermind, I should have tried looking on the mazda site first, thanks.

Still waiting for my order too.

I ordered mine in the middle of May. I figured it would take around three months. But when I called the saleman to get an update he said there has been a delay. He said he has the vin number and that It should arrive around the end August or the beginning of September. Starting to get impatient!

This is getting lame. It's exactly 4 months since I ordered my '05 RX8 and it still isn't here. All the dealership can say is that "it has a build date now, but no shipping date" WTF? Can't they get a little more accurate than that? I guess the RX8 will spend most of its time in the garage due to winter, friggin Nebraska.

That wait would be killing me. I'm sure many have asked you this before, but why did you order and not find one from local inventory. The deals on 2004 model are smokin right now.
I see you ordered a Ti MT sports pkg, I just got one exactly the same on friday. There was none here in Dallas area, but my dealer found two, the other is in OK. Let me know if you want his number as you could cancel your order and even eat your deposit if it is non-refundable and still be saving money and have your car in a couple days.

The reason I ordered was because I wanted all the service bulletins taken care of. And that I have the S-plan and it would still be a good buy for me. But even with S-plan it seems like the 04's are going for so cheap w/o any plan that it almost puts the S-plan to shame. Oh well, the car has to be here soon, so I will stick it out. I didn't want to have to go out of state to get what I wanted. I've been workin tons of overtime anyway, no time to enjoy the car if I had it, but plenty of time to save up even more for the down payment. Yes, the wait is still killing me!

Well I don't know what to say now. I called today, first they tell me the ship sank, sinking some cars. Yeah right. Then the guy says he'll look into it, I told him its been over 4 months, its actually closer 5 months now. I had to go to work afterwards so he left this on my answering machine, "well it says here you ordered on 9/29/04 so its only been over 2 months, I ordered one on 7/23 and should get it this week" (funny I ordered mine on 7/08 and still don't have it!) Then he says I should get it early January. Wtf?

I'm plainly dissatisfied. I honestly don't think they care about my business. I have the deposit receipt with 7/08/04 on it. What did they do, just not order mine until over 2 months later?? Am I missing something here?

Denzalo, I think you need to find another dealer. If you're in the eastern third (Lincoln, Omaha area) of the state that should be easy. If you're in the west, might be more of a challenge. But I'd advise you to locate a car on the lot for some dealer and get that. They tend to give better deals on cars on the lot. I am also an S-plan buyer and I had two dealers beating S-plan to get my business. As far as the updates are concerned, just get a car that's a relatively recent build, not one that they've had for eight months. My late '04 build Sunlight Silver has caused me no problems at all.

I'm in Hastings, going through a dealer in Grand Island. I don't have time to drive around shopping for cars and I don't want to have to wait any longer. I'm hoping this warm weather continues through the winter but that's wishful thinking in Nebraska! Anyway, with S-plan it should be around 26,500 - 26,700. I'm putting down 10-12k on it. I plan on a 3yr loan to get it paid off quick. Any idea what the going APR's are going for now on 3yr loans? I'll be paying around 450-500 a month which is fine, I just want a good rate. My bank has one approved for me, though no details have been ironed out yet.

Should I use my bank's loan offer as a barter weapon for dealer loan? Thanks to all who helped earlier, piece of thine is peace of mine.

you know what he did? the same thing that happened to some early (me grr) pre-order customers. they took your order but didnt place it with Mazda until they were putting in another allotment order. meanwhile they are sitting on your deposit. f-that make them go trade for one of the lot from another dealer. all the 05s are completely up to date.

Well, thankfully mine is already built as of 9/29/04. It's the shipping it over that is taking so long.

Yes, I'm going to call after this new year's weekend for an update on my car. I'm not in a hurry since winter is here, but I still need to get my loan prepared.

Well I got it 1/11/05, only took 6 months and 3 days! It's now parked (stuck) out front of my house getting snowed on and iced over. ( Friggin summer tires! How am I supposed to even park it in the garage for the winter! I went through the trouble of dumping snowmelt on my drive and shaving all ice off with my shovel just to try to get up the 20 degree steep drive, only to not even budge at all. Oh well. :p I parked my beater behind it to protect it from unseen fender benders, lol.

snow and ice

Had our first major snowfall this past week in Wis., followed by freezing rain, etc. Getting around fine on a set of Blizzaks which we mounted on new (cheap) alloys. Total cost from Tire Rack around $1k.

Yeah, I plan on getting some but not until next year. For now I just want to park it until spring arrives.

Congrats on finally taking delivery. You've waited over 6 months for her.. get her in the garage! If there's a will, there's a way! Maybe put something over your driveway so your rear wheels get traction?

I was wondering if anyone could give any updates on how long the wait is if you ordered it, say today? I know they have the issues at the plant and aren't resuming until March, but does anyone have a timeframe?
