Ah, yes. Very nice!
And it says if you spend the extra $55 to join as an Executive Member, you get an additional .10% off. That's $55 well spent, I'm sure.
Thanks!

3.74%, 3.84%...
Reality check here, at $30,000 for 60 months, an 0.10% difference in your rate means only $81.28 OVER THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THE LOAN. Chill out -- that's not much of a difference.

I went to PeopleFirst.com last night to fill out an online form, but after I saw the field for Social Security number, I got concerned and read their privacy notice. They will provide any of the information you supply on their forms to every Tom, Dick and Harry that'll pay for it. Can you say "Identity Theft"? I backed out of that form and ran the opposite direction!
I don't think this was their policy before they got the bought out by Capital One (you know, the ones with the annoying commercials).
I think I'll just go thru my credit union.

The costco discount is .25% less than peoplefirst.com rates for every % in the charts. Pull up www.peoplefirst.com and click on "check loan RATES". Then, also, www.costco.com - click on "services" in the costco home page, then, "auto financing". You should then be able to put the two comparable charts side by side like I did. Every number in the Costco chart is exactly .25% less than the one at peoplefirst.com site.
At the bottom of the costco chart, it says that executive rates are .10 less. That means that if you join as an executive member ($55 more membership fee), your rates will be .10 less (than the rates in their chart), or, .35% less than peoplefirst.com's regular rates.
Geez.
I doubt if their privacy policies are any worse than any other source. I may be wrong, make sure you're right before you throw away money someplace else with a higher rate. Neither of these companies are fly-by-night. Deny their permission to divulge your private information to outside interests, then rake them over the coals royally if you can prove they violated your order. This goes for any other company that you must provide such info, including credit unions...(my credit union rate is 4.75% currently for up to 72 months - if you qualify for this lowest rate. It can go as high as 13.50% if your credit history sux enough.)

If there truly was a checkbox, I would have used them, but having known victims of identity theft, I think I'll pass. A word to the wise... doling out your social security number to parties that don't protect it by default is like leaving the keys to your RX-8 hanging from the lock cylinder.

I was talking about dealers. They will not give up your SSN. I have a Capital One card now, no problems with it for many years. If you go to a dealer to get financing they give out your info to a bunch of lenders to get you the best rate, it's nothing new. You are being sold!!!

I am well aware what ID theif is all about, and in most cases, it not being stolen from a Website like Peoplefirst.com. It most cases it someone working at a location, Doctor, Medical, Resturant/waiter, Insurance, credit card agency. That your ID is easily stolen. I don't think Peoplefirst.com would be succesful if they were making it easy to have your ID stolen.
If you really are paranoid that it will be stolen, then you should never have a credit card, and never go to the doctor, nor buy a car for that matter. If someone really wants to steal your ID, it's really not that hard. You just have to be careful and monitor your credit. That's the safest thing to do.

I was a potential victim for ID theft when that big ID theft bust went down in, where was it, NJ I think? My name was on that list of those thousands of other people who had their SS #'s stolen, as well. Those guys got ahold of my info. through TRICARE, a military insurance company. Someone had either hooked them up with the info (from inside the company) or they hacked into their inadequite security system.
What was recommended to me was to get a credit report and alert all the credit reporting agencies (the big three; equifax and the other two). They put you on some alert status for some period of time and monitor what's going on with your credit. If anything suspicious happens, they let you know immediately.

Now that our cars are here I thought I would activate this thread again. Got my approval yesterday for 60 months @ 3.64%
through Costco. I dont think that the dealer will be close to
that. Now lets get ready to have some fun driving.

Executive membership, right?
My figures point to a conclusion about using Costco. The savings you get don't make up for the annual membership fees, either regular or executive. So, unless you plan on using Costco for other things, don't go there for your loan. Go straight to PeopleFirst.com for 3.99% (3.49% for up to 36 months).
That's not a knock on Costco or people who use Costco. That's just how I see the numbers add-up.

Just got approved for 3.64% at PeopleFirst for a $36,000 loan over 60 months - I am a Costco Executive member. Monthly payment was $657. But I will probably lease instead...
