Progressive doesnt like RX8?

I just ran a check on progressive to insure the 8 and they want near a grand... WTF..

So I ask a friend to check with his info. 3 yrs older, slightly worse driving record. He gets high 800s, which is more than he pays for his Z. So I run his Z, with my Info. 5 and change (bad, but doable). Even Running an 04 RX8 came up with 982.87

So, I was under my parents insurance before, and it was no problem, but I'm going to have to get my own soon, is the 8 really that bad for insurance?

I think it might matter from one company to another. In general, I don't think the car is high on any one's particular "high risk" list that would mandate ridiculous rates. Shop around on insurance comparing the same coverages as close as possible. I ended up going with Esurance for the cheapest -- although they may be questionable as far as holding up to an actual wreck involving another party (no clue; I've only made claims against road debris, of which they're fairly "okay" about). I have moderate (I think what they consider "standard") coverage all around and am now paying less than what I was paying for my Hyundai Elantra; $429 for 6 months! Esurance considers the car a "Coupe 4 door", FWIW.

i have a 300 dollar deductible and full coverage, roadside, and rent-a-car and only pay 900 (this is also with 2 HUGE infractions on my driving record that most insurance companies just outright cancel someone for). All insured through progressive.

Just try another company...I'd be that one of them will rate the 8 lower than the Z...

best bet is to call a local private insurance provider. they typically have 5-6 companies that they can resell insurance from and run you a quote based on all those companies and give you the best deal possible.

I'm a lot younger than that and I get low 400s for my RX-8. Is yours red? They make you pay a LOT more for red cars.

Also if you happen to still be in school they'll cut your rates for a B average.

I have $500 (6 months) for all the coverage turned very high for liability and $500 collision and comphrehensive deductable through GEICO.

I shopped around, prices were not that different, I am 26 and clean driving record.

The 8 was actually lower than my BMW.

False..colour has nothing to do with your premium.

not quite sure how it is now, but a while back, statistically, red cars were pulled over more, therefore a "higher risk" car, so insurance companies would charge more for driving a "higher risk" car.

Well, im 20 now. will be 21 in May, I had my permit since I was 16, and im not sure if insurance companies count that, but I noticed that If I state that I acquired my license at 16, my rate gets cut in half, 400-500ish. Which is real doable, but at 18, they want massive amounts of cash. Anyone know if the permit counts or not?

When you got your quote did the broker specifically ask you if your car was red?
When you get an online quote, is there a field that asks what colour your car is? Or do they only ask for the model and year?

I had been driving my old MX3 under my parents policy up until i bought the 8. Since I was financing most of the price I had to be the only registered owner of the car therefore I had to open up my own policy. Since I had been with State Farm with my parents for 2 1/2 years I got (what I consider) a great deal on my personal insurance policy. Currently paying $300 (i'm 20) full coverage. In November my insurance will go down 40% due to having 3 years of driving experience (20%) and me turning 21 (18-20%). Have you checked with State Farm? They also have a 10% good driver discount if your record is clean .

Nope, didnt ask if it was red, and its Black, so I dont care.

We have similar situations Alzorz. Ive been on my parents policy for 3 years in May. I also turn 21 in May, whether that makes a huge difference or not... I dont know. I have more than 4 years driving experience, but I got my license Oct 14 of 05. I was driving on my permit prior to that, mostly taking my family around. 1 Accident, which I was not at fault.

Like I said, my main thing is whether they will accept my permit as an official license, because I got that 5 years ago, which when placed in lowers my rate by more than half. I think I should find some kind of Geico location and have a sit down chat with them. Unless we have any car insurance salesmen here who are in the know?

Im 19 years old and i have farmers insurance and i pay $150 per month right now and thats with one ticket on my record. and i am on my own for insurance. make sure you tell the insurance company that the RX8 is a 4 door and it has tons of air bags... it helps a lot.

Im with Geico right now, Except for the *first* quote, which means b4 I got my car. in almost 3 yrs of 8 owner ship, I checked them every 1/2 yr, the price for Progressive is always lower than Geico.

The only reason I stay with Geico simply because their claim service is faster, my father got into an accident b4, they wrote him a check right away and everything fix up. Plus I have Mechanical Breakdown coverage, something that no other company offers.

But for some reason, its pretty expensive to insure me, I am like around 700 in credit score, which is not bad, 500 deduc Full coverage, 1100 something for 6 months. I got a ticket thx to fuxking NYC police which just forced that **** on my head, 2 points running thru stop sign (which I didnt do, fuxking cops), Geico did not raise my premium. I have defensive driver course btw.

they will renew my policy by June, lets just hope that they will lower it even more.

Insurance rates are based on a lot of different factors. Things like Credit History, Driving History, Vehicle Make and Model (not color), area you live in, amount of driving done, etc all play into your rate. Each insurance company weighs different factors differently which is why your quotes end up all over the place. I pay around $300 a year on my RX8 for full coverage. Good luck with your shopping.

Can I move to where u live ?

When I first insured my 8, it cost like 1800 something for 1/2 year !

NYC's rate is just a pure rip off.

I agree with devilboi, my insurance was only 380 six months before i increased the coverage to max and now it's 500 for 6 months, but it dropped quite a bit when I moved to Madison, WI. My zip code is actually Middleton WI, which is considered to be one of the safest places to live in the U.S. So my insurance just cut off about 100 bucks as soon as I moved. So I know that where you live plays a big role in the price. My friend lives in South Chicago, and he and I both have clean records but he pays almost double what I pay just cause of where he lives.
