That's absolutely incorrect, seeing as how rates for a red RX-8 are exactly 508/month for a 16 year old with As in school and are exactly 412/month for a galaxy grey shinka, also for a 16 year old male with an A average.

I have progressive and I pay $280 a month full coverage as well.

that's including 2 tickets on my record for the last 2 years. The insurance 'specialist' agent said that it's on averge an extra $92/ticket on your record towards your monthly cost...

which is correct, prior to the 2 tickets I was paying $88/month... then BAM! $280/month now ...

I have Progressive and pay only $185 a month for full coverage. My girlfriend (who is older and has a better driving record and credit score, blah blah blah) pays $205 a month for her Saturn Ion 4-door, on the same policy.

Do the same quote and move yourself out of Queens and see what happens. Hell move it out of the state and see what happens. Stay away from a major city and watch your rate drop like a brick. You won't be able to purchase it but you will see the quote change drastically.

is the red 8 as shinka as well? same year? (basically everything is the same except one is red and the other is not)

I just did a quick quote on their website and no where does it ask me if the RX-8 is red or not

and if that doesn't make you believe me here you go...With the job I have, I think I know a little something about insurance rates

If only.

I'm 41 and I pay $1200 to Progressive every 6 months to insure the '8 and my Jeep.
Of course, I have $100 deductibles and full replacement coverage, but the traditional age "breaks" never happened for me because I'm listed as single and self-employed. My insurance actually went up when I turned 25. Probably based on inflation more than anything else, but there was no age reduction.
Not at 30 or 35 either. Or at 40. That is with a clean record.

Your credit rating and marital status have more to do with your insurance rate than just about anything.
When you are self-employed, you can have a 7-figure income and your credit rating will still be worse than a $30k a year schlep with a dozen credit cards (as long as he is current).
Especially if you are cash-basis.

How can anyone be charged $800 a month? I pay less than that for the full-coverage for six months. Even when I was driving an MR2 as a kid, I never paid that much. You might want to speak to an agent and find out your options.

I got my License when I was 23, my rate did drop a bit like 100 something after 25 yr bday policy renewal.

Now Im 28.

the Age 25 = Lower insurance rate has something to do with the State I guess

My father, like 30+ yrs of driving, Married, Clean, he got his CX-7 back in Nov, Brand new all covered 500 deduct for like 720 bux 1/2 yr, then he got hit by some moron truck driver in Dec, not @ Fault (Geico still trying to make them pay back our deductible, waiting for judgment now), just got the renweal policy from GEico, 780 bux, more like it has something to do with inflation than anything else.

Man, I still think that paying over 1100 bux for 1/2 yr is outrageous, I never got into accident (not on record at least), Only got 1 ticket 2 points thx to Fat NYC cops who doesnt do **** but giving ppl tickets, insurnace didnt go up but ... still too much.

But dont worry, with the ever increasing Gas prices, it wont be long before people stop driving and stop buying cars.

Oh oh oh I notice that for the past 2-3 weeks, the traffic in NYC decrease significantly. Gas price ?

IT just wont be long b4 insurance gotta drop their rates cuz no one can even afford a car.

Funny this thread shoul pop up today. I have progressive. I pay $275 and some change each month for insurance, have a $25 deductable on collision and I hate progressive! My 8 has been in the shop for a week now only for me to find out yesterday they have not even touched my car!! I go out there today and this jerk from progressive walks out to mycar with me and tells me a few dents he can tell came form golf ***** so that is comp not collision... Comp is a $500 deductable. But each dent is a separate accident so $500 a pop and only 2 of them are collision in his opinion so I can get those repaired for $25. So I ask about getting the golfball dent out of the hood cause I know its less than $500, the body shop guy comes out and tells me not to worry, he will repair all the dents in the doors anyways and he will do the hood for 125.00 so I pay a total of 175.00 and he will even fix both fenders for me too. He apparently dosent like the insurance guy either. I am also filing a complaint against the progressive guy for blowing his nasty *** cigarette smoke in my face while he was looking at my car with me! Im talking right in my face!! I know a guy who works in his office and he said everyone there would love me if I got him fired.

As far as claims with Progressive, I've only had good luck.

When I hit a retread on the highway and destroyed my MS bumper, he just asked "was the retread moving?". It was, so it went to comprehensive.
No deductible.
Paid for full retail on the bumper and included a couple of hundred to have it painted (even though I TOLD him it comes painted). Wrote me a check on the spot on the day I called it in.

Pretty much the same story when my Miata got driven over and into twice in as many weeks.

Everybody has their own stories, good & bad

I got Geico cuz I had good claim service experience from them, not directly to me, my father did.

Oh well, 1100 for 1/2 yr that is ... greedy corporates !

Yeah, i thought I had made it clear, 800 A MONTH... and thats the lowest. I've seen upwards of 1200 a Month depending on the company. I have a friend of a friend working on some rates for me right now, so I'll keep you guys posted, but hearing from most of you has strengthened my resolve that I should be paying no more than 300 a month, heck most of you pay less than that without clean records, and mine is clean (unless non-fault accidents count).

Thanks a lot for the support.

@NYCGPS: I've noticed less traffic also, but believe me, I'm lovin it.

As far as cops go, I got pulled by state just last night for a 74 in a 50 (clocked me after I slowed), followed the rules for dealing with cops, and they let me go... gotta know how to play the game bro.

1. Slow down as soon as you detect the cop, don't just fly past them (get a radar detector, and always look around as u drive)... V1 FTW.
2. Roll down your window, or both fronts if tint is non legal. Turn of Radio and electronics, close your GPS.
3. Turn on your interior lights (day or night) and place both hands on your steering wheel until the cop tells you otherwise (this is KEY).
4. DONT ARGUE, and Do Not start the conversation, let them speak first.
5. Never Incriminate yourself and admit your wrongdoing, always state you didn't realize... etc.
6. Use your judgment, if the cop seems cool, tell a joke, if the cop is pissed... shut the hell up.
7. If you were following anyone, state that you were trying to keep up with your idiot friend, who knows where to go and you don't (close your GPS). Remember to ask for directions to someplace big (mall or some BS), during the conversation to sell the excuse.
8. Lastly, be Polite. Cops are cool people until proven otherwise, if you think all cops are a**holes, they can smell it on you and will circle your car 3 times just to write extra tickets (happened to a few friends).

Suffice it to say, I've been pulled over a few times... and the one ticket I did get (80 in 55, and HOV lane change illegal), didn't stick, because I fought it and won.

That really depends on what kind of car were you driving.

if you drive a Civic, most likely they will let u go.

if u drive a RX-8, forget it, u're dead. Cuz cops think they're *smart* and they stereotype sports car.

Hell they pick me all the time. including 12 am @ 42nd ST, yep thats right, I got pulled over that midnight I didnt even do ****, oh wait, they pulled me over for *routine inspection* and then gave me a ticket of tinted window, when there were like at least 200 cars passby that time with darker windows than mine.

I dont know why people say ONLY 185 a month. That's huge amount. Specially if she is paying 205. What area do you live in for this to be so high...for me paying 83 a month is with maximum coverage from GEICO. So I have no clue why people are generally paying over 200...am I missing some kind of coverage here?

My dad got me full coverage (everything) for $800 a year, he is also 52. Check out Allied insurance or at least stay away from the big insurance companies. I work for a law firm and I know how bad they are with claims and high premiums.

age...?

it's all relative.. you will find many people here paying in the $300 range for full coverage while you find the more mature crowd paying alot less.. stereotypes on driving habits with age? maybe..
