Rear Bulb Out of Warrantee?

My right rear light bulb has popped out of its socket and is sitting inside the lense casing. Looks like a simple assembly plant error. I tried pulling the bulb through the socket hole from inside the trunk with a three pronged computer chip retractor, but there's not enough clearance in the socket hole for the retractor to grab the bulb.

I called Alhambra Mazda and was told that this is covered under warrantee for only the first 12,000 miles, even though I have an extended warrantee contract. Since the lense is sealed, they will have to remove the entire lense unit and upend it to shake the bulb out.

Though the $30 repair cost seems reasonable, I'd think something like this should really be covered within my 50,000 miles bumper-to-bumper extended warrantee. The car currently has almost 23,000 miles on it and was purchased on 9/1/03.

Any thoughts?

Call another dealer nearby and see what they say. That should be covered in the manufacturer's warranty.

i think it should be covered by warrenty.

If not, DIY. my front corner bulb fell out, my stupidity though. I used everything. I found a plastic tube and a vacuum attacked worked well to suck that baby and pull it out.

or you can always pay the 30 something. save time and pain.

I thought I was the only to do this. I installed a stealth bulb and a few weeks later it went out (so I thought). I saw the the bulb was loose and when i wentto unscreew the harness from the case out went my bulb. I have been too embarrassed to go to the dealer so far, i will just bring it up the next time I'm there and see what they say.

I needed it fixed, so paid the $30. My service manager said that I had been mislead by Culver City Mazda who purportedly sold me a 50,000 miles "factory" warrantee. Instead, it turned out to be some aftermarket "insurance". I'll have to pull my policy to find out exactly what it's worth. A bit too much tedium for me, especially as a "premium" customer. I really don't mind paying my way. I'd just appreciate it if dealers and service people would simply give me the straight information. For that I'd gladly pay and extra 10% to 20% more just to know that what I bought was what I was told I'd be buying.
