I have driven an automatic twice as a friend of mine's boss has one. Had to put gas in it but I got to drive for a little bit. I just loved it. I am getting the manual though.

I can't wait to get my car, and good luck with your's. I just have a paranoia about financing since I have never purchased anything this expensive before. I know I can afford it, it's just whether or not the loan people want to give me money. I have a credit score between 720-740 depending on which of the three agencies I check, live with parents, and make $80K a year. I know I can afford it. I talked to my credit union about preapproval and they said they couldn't see why they wouldn't give me the loan for the amount I needed but wouldn't give me preapproval papers since it was over 30 days before my car was expected to arrive and the fact that I only had an order number as opposed to an actual VIN number, so I just have to wait and see. But my score should go up again by next month.

I guess I just always have to worry about something. First it was getting my license, and I finally got around to that last week despite the fact that I have been driving since high school. Passed that no problem. Now the only thing left to panic over, I guess is my loan!!! Must be a girl thing!!!

Like zeliggusgus up there, I'm looking into purchasing an RX-8 after years of admiring from afar. Can someone please explain in a little more detail the temperature issues? I understand the general concept of the rotary engine, now, but I'm shaky on things like the importance of high revving and warming-up periods for extending engine life. Help?

Give your car more warmup time by picking up drive thru coffee or breakfast if you do not have far to go. Once you get hooked you will be looking for ways to spend more time with your '8. Walking up to it after work generates the same thrill every time. It's a beautiful fun fast car and so far it has been reliable as well.

(1) You know how your temp needle on your car goes up to a certain point and then stays there for the rest of the trip? You'll need to make sure that the temp needle reaches that point before you shut off the engine, to reduce the risk of flooding the next time the car is started.

This has obvious implications if someone else (a valet for instance) has the keys to your car.

(2) The experts around here recommend revving the engine to redline at least once per trip, once it's warmed up, to generate enough heat to burn off any carbon buildup. The engine can handle it, and it's a lot of fun too.

(3) Check your oil frequently, about every other gas fillup. Top up as necessary. Keep a quart of oil in the car just in case you get lazy later on, once some of the novelty wears off. Realize that as the ECU learns, and the engine breaks in, and depending on how hard you drove the car that week, your oil consumption will vary.

(4) If you live where there is any amount of snow in the winter, you simply cannot safely drive around on the stock summer tires in the snow. Plan on getting all-season M+S or snow tires. There are lots of recommendations on this site.

That's all I can think of. This is a spectacular car. If you can put up with what's listed above, you'll probably really enjoy it.
