i am looking at purchasing a black 06 shinka, 15,000 miles, great condition. the seller is asking $18k. does this sound like a reasonable price to purchase the car from private seller? haven't been real successful getting the owner to come down, but like the "rare" car. i've looked at edmunds and nadaguides already, just wanted to get input from the people who know the cars best.

any thoughts?

 

I'd say that's a really good price. $17K would be a great price, but I wouldn't feel bad at all about paying $18K. Since there's not a lot options out there if you want a Black Shinka, it's not like there's other places to go, so it's worth paying a tad bit extra for exactly what you want.

 

Private sales are gnerally a bit higher, but then there's the advantage of knowing exactly from whence the vehicle comes and therefore you can get a detailed history of how the car was maintained. $17-18k for an '06 Shinka with 15k miles is a fair price.

 

thanks for your reasonable thoughts - they helped me realize that if i wanted a black 06 shinka i would probably have to pay a bit extra, especially for one locally. i ended up buying it for $17,600 and in reality it only had 13k on the clock (i know the seller was lurking on this site so i didn't want to make it too obvious here that i was still considering his price while i was working on him to lower his price). let the fun begin!
