What warranty do you speak of? The 8yr/100k is only for the Engine Core and nothing else. There is a 8yr/80k for the CAT, I think. Anything else you would need to pay for. Most people when selling an RX8 call the engine core warranty an "extended warranty" because it is technically true. Mazda extended the warranty on the engine. If you are talking about one of those third party car warrantys that "fix things" when they break, Good Luck. I have seen those companies **** over too many people. My friends tranny blew and the company told him it was due to lack of maint. and physical abuse and would not pay for the repairs.

The car I'm looking at has an extended warranty from CarMax, valid through 2013.

Nope. Buying from a private seller.

I have an 04 for 5 years, and 50k plus miles. My suggestion is DON'T BUY A 2004!!

There is a 50% probability your transmission will go out then Mazda won't do ****. Listen to the people who lived it. The 2004s are technically flawed. That was a good $3300 lesson I just learned and am passing it on to you.

Doing the math, it means my monthly car payment is the same as it is now, just covering a longer period of time.

I am wondering if an inexpensive 04 is worth the risk. I can't afford the extra costs associated with an 06 or later. I can find 04's with reasonable mileage (< 50k) for under $15000, with many in the $10000-12000 range.

Considering the situation, do you think purchasing an 04 is an acceptable risk? or are the potential issues with a first-run production more trouble than they're worth?
I just bought my 04 about 3 weeks ago. It had less 20K miles. I got it for 12.9K. Dont pay more then that or you'll need to put a lot of money down. The wholesale prices on an 04 is between 10 and 13K. If you find one listed for 15K i'm sure you can get it for 13k or less.

Thanks for all of the feedback.

I got a killer deal on an 05 Shinka with a bunch of MazdaSpeed enhancements for $12k. I hope to take delivery of it within the next week or two.

CA I just got my first RX8

I think I got a smokin' deal on it. 42k miles new tires and a nice warrantee. A perfectly clean ride! I don't know much about them but I am learning loads on this forum.

It does seem a bit slow from the start and when I am sitting at the stop light it seems to run rough. Mostly when the A/C is on. What the heck is that?

Anyway. I am having so much fun.
