Should I buy off the lot or order it?

Should I buy off the lot or order it?
Hi everyone. I really want to order my RX8 instead of getting it off the lot. I looked at the car inventory on the Mazda US website and they seem to come with options that I don't want at all. But I was wondering, would there be a "huge" difference in price if I were to buy it off the lot instead of ordering it, if they both have the options? One thing I did notice was that it said there were no white RX-8s in my area.
I'm looking for the following:
White RX-8 6-Speed GT
nav, alarm upgrade, all-weather floor mats, cargo net, moonroof wind deflector, and spare tire kit
Do they install these options when they build the car in japan, or when the car comes to the dealer? Is there a labor cost to install these options?
Sorry for all the questions, I have never ordered a car before. Just curious so that I make sure everything goes smoothly. If there's a huge price difference, I guess I might try to accept whatever is on the lot.

floor mats and cargo net come from the dealer i believe, as far as nav, thats factory, moonroof can be either, u can tell the difference if it has been done by mazda or by a third party, spare tire kit i think is also dealer, alarm upgrade is also dealer i think, or go to this website here: http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/disp...ehicleCode=RX8

It depends on how long you want to wait to get the exact car that you want. I ordered mine about 3 weeks ago, and I am being told the end of May to the end of June as the window that it will be ready for pick up - they will know more once it gets a VIN number and they start to actually build it. If you don't want to wait, you have to choose from what they have on the lots right now.
I used the Costco program, so even though I ordered it before the 2006's were on the lot, I still only paid $300 over invoice.

Wow, $300 over invoice isn't bad at all for something that's even not on the lots yet. The only thing required to join their program is to buy a Costco gold star membership?

On the other hand, if you pick one off the lot - you can save a lot and have it now!
For example, my local dealer has a white 2005 Touring 6M with only 10 miles. Brand new. MSRP is 32K - on sale for 27K. That's a 5K off. Not a bad deal.
I bought mine "technically" new for $10K off MSRP. I say technically because although it was never titled - it had a few thousand miles on it. So maybe it was a demo. Either way, flawless condition and full warranty for $10K off sticker. I'm happy.
You won't get those deals if your order.

I've never heard of anyone getting $10k off MSRP before, even though it has a few thousand miles on it. Pretty good, that's a killer deal. Although, I seriously would not get a car with over 50 miles on it, hehe. *cough*abused*cough* Although it's good to hear your dealer has a white one with only 10 miles on it, that's pretty sweet for an '05!

My RX-8 came with one installed and I sort of liked the look. Folks on here warned that it would scratch the paint, but I figured it couldn't be too bad.
Then it got loose.
I was driving one day a few weeks back and heard it clatter on the roof. The screws were loose enough to remove by hand so I took it off at my first stop and threw it in the trunk. It had made *horrible* scratches in the entire footprint; clearly visible from any angle in any light.
I'm going to try to buff them out with some aggressive polishing this spring when I see a few warm, dry days in a row. However, the damage is bad enough I doubt I can polish it out so I may try to make a warrenty claim to repair the damage done by a Mazda installed part (shows as installed on my vehicle invoice, not something I put on myself).

Ouch! Thanks for the headups, I haven't heard anything about the wind deflector. I'm gonna take your advice since you were warned by ppl in the forum and had it happened to yourself, then it must be true.
I mostly wanted to get it because I thought it would cut down on some wind noise. It doesn't look too bad on the RX-8, but I'm willing to give it up based on the issues you described and the warning from others. Thanks again!

I don't find the noise any different without the deflector. There's plenty of noise with or without, but not bad. Still no problem to talk or listen to music.
Good luck with your search.

I have the Executive Costco membership with the black card and I also used the Costco program, actually passed the info along to Duke. Anyways, mine was $400 over invoice for me. I got the first 06 purchased in my state, allegedly. If you are really set on specific options go the order route.
I believe you can also use the other levels of Costco cards to purchase vehicles with.

And I really want the white RX-8s and most dealers don't stock the white ones. Out of the all the RX-8s I've seen on the road, I've only seen 1 white one, and that was like was like 6 months ago, so rare. So that's really why it looks like I will have to order an '06. Why do I have to be so picky... damn this obsession!

Yep - $25 You can also get cheaper financing (than some places) through Costco & Capital One.

You can use any level of Costco card to qualify for their program - but you would have to use a dealer that they have partnered with. The executive membership will get you 15% off parts for some dealers, but it is a smaller number than Costco car sales dealers.
The only other things that I can add about the options are that zny of the options that you get installed on the car prior to the final sale are covered by the warranty. Also, you can add fender strakes to the list of things that get installed at the dealership.

Also, an update on what has been going on. I am having trouble here in northern VA trying to get a white '06. The dealers tried, nothing, they keep on telling to get the '05, plenty of white ones. But I'm already settled on the '06, can't wait to try that keyless start, that's what I tell them if they ask "why an '06!?", hehe. One of the dealers I tried has plenty of '06, they were all lined up ready to be picked up, 20 of them, but no white, lol!!! That new red is very nice, but I want a Nav. Well, it's time to special order for sure, I give up now going to dealers.
I went to one bank today to see what interest rate is offered, but will not get a final offer until Monday, but the lowest they can go is 6.75% and as high as 9-something. I'm the primary signer and my parents are the co-signer. I'm gonna try their bank on Monday and see what interest rate they will offer.
I might after all try CapitalOne, hopefully they can give me a better interest rate than what the banks will offer.
