Small request

I just came back from test driving the 8 for the second time (still love it) and I have a small request of the sales community. Am I asking too much to expect the sales rep to:

1. Know something about the cars they are selling?

2. Be able to drive a MT?

I am contuniually amazed by the lack of knowledge these people have, I had to explain several features that are not standard to him ie. the 6 disc changer is not on every 8. I went into this dealer to see a winning blue in person and was told by the sales manager they he didn't think they were making that color yet because he had not seen one. While I don't expect these people to be experts on every car they sell, they need to do their homework.

My second request is have these people know how to drive a MT. My first test drive the girl trying to sell me the car stalled it 6 times trying to drive it off the lot and was so jerky I felt like I had whiplash. My drive today was slightly better but he redlined it (on a cold engine) every shift but wasn't smooth and again was jerky. Whats more amazing is my pregnant wife (7 mos) is sitting next to him while he is trying to impress us with the power of this car. It was so bad she was sore from his drive.

It was an informative trip though, I realized I really want the 8, I will never buy one off of the the lot, and I want to find out more info about auto brokers so I can avoid these idiots.

Now I realize I have made some sweeping comments and not every sales rep is a moron (Budman comes to mind), but I think I am close to the truth.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I think you are asking to much. I expected my salesman to not know anything about the car. He did not let me down.

i have found that ALL of the sales folks (RX8) i've dealt with (7 total) were not able to answer at least one of my basic questions regarding the car. there was always something they had to look up. as an enthusiast, i really wish there was a salesperson who could cater to my questions...

it's sad but most (not all) sales folks don't know enough about the car because to them it's just a commission. the 8 can sell itself.

and the reason i wanted a car with low milage (4-6miles) was because IDIOT drivers whether dealer or test drivers would have had less opportunity to REDLINE a new engine!

My salesman.... or should I say, the ninny that got the commission, told me at delivery that the DSC button was the rear defroster. Obviously, he was a moron... and severely defficient in his salesman skills. The car sold itself, I went in, told em what I wanted (from another dealership stock), paid a deposit, got the car, and drove off after I wrote them the check. Didn't want them explaining anything to me, just let me sign, shut up and let me outta here.

I was also told I'd get to meet the parts and service managers, but since I picked up on a Friday, everyone already left for the weekend. Signed up for my free oil change... and was told that I'd get a call Monday from the parts manager to order my Bra and other accessories. I emphatically told them that I wanted a BRA ASAP to protect my baby from chips until I could look into a clear bra... but never got the call. A week went by and I ordered from the net. Ive made two orders so far... one from trussville and the other from Japanparts. Granted they can't get the stuff I ordered from Japan, but they lost a $700 sale (I assume they wanted Mazda MSRP on the accessories, so it was more like $1000.00) to Trussville. I'm thinking the ONLY thing my local dealer will do for me is warranty stuff.

I'd never recommend buying a Lincoln/Mercury/Mazda from these yokles or buying any accessories... their customer service is a joke, although their service dept has treated me and my Town car right in the past.

I'm done venting.... thanks.

when i found out from this forum that some cars were missing the driver side mat retainer under the seat that should be installed during PDI i told the salesman about it and he said it doesnt have a retainer. rather than argue with him i called service and the manager told me to stop by and pick the part up. a few days later my salesman calls and says you were right there is a mat retainer and to bring my car in to have it installed. i said too late i already did. :D
