Some People!!

This is a story back in in May/June time when i got my 8, and was fishing around for good insurance prices...

I ring "The AA" (after much advertising claiming theyre the cream of the crop bla bla)...

Anyway i get through to some guy (whom i am now branding a degenerate), asks me a number of questions, what car make.. i say Mazda, says what model, i say RX8... he says what litre...(given he's meant to be the prof. here)... i say 1.3L... he says that not right.. its either a 2.8 192bhp or 2.8 240 bhp... i go ahead an explain the whole thing (about 6 times)... until he (very annoyed tone) says even tho "I" am wrong he'll go ahead and put the 192bhp 5 speed manual in.... go's on to ask my age... i say 23... he asks me to repeat... i say 23 (seems oooooverly shocked).. says erm.. fair enough....and quotes me... at £3680.00 (the next nearest quote had been £1100.00)...i tell him this... he says.. so your 23, driving a 1.3L car thats actually a 2.8, and were quoted £1100.00???... says nothing... and hangs up the phone.

Some people.

You'd be surprised how alot of people are like that. I've spoken to quite a few and it seems like nether one knows about cars and takes what ever is on there screen like it was the word of the bible. I spent 5 min arguing with one guy that my car existed since according to his computer mazda only made the rx7 not an rx8. Although I did luck out since one of people put my car in the same price bracket as a mazda 3 because it had four doors so I'm paying alot less for the same full coverage as another place only because the computer is never wrong.

Do these words sound familiar: "actually my dealer told me about an insurance you could buy for the tires and rims in case something like that happened, he said it cost 250 for a one time fee...you should ask about that, wait a little while if you have another car to drive, then say it just happened and you want a new rim"

Insurance fraud is one reason why rates are as high as they are. So be good!

Watch out, most, if not all, auto insureres in the US not only look at your driving record kept by the state, but also use something called the C.L.U.E. Database maintained by a company called ChoicePoint.
Last time I got a quote on insurance they jacked up the price because of a subaru I had totaled, only problem is I had never totaled a subaru, my father had. They also said that my brother would be driving the car, of course he isn't going to drive my car because he has been totally blind since birth. They also claimed that I still owned the last 2 cars I had bought even though I hadn't owned either in years and had a few speeding tickets on my record I had never received.
You see, in all actuallity my driving record is completely spotless, and that is what the state motor vehicle report showed, but the insurance company was willing to over look that and rely on the report from a company that ilegally obtains data about foreign citizens, keeps a dossier on every person in the US, and wants to build a database of DNA samples from every person in the US which they can then cross reference against their other databases making it possible for someone to get your credit report from the hair that fell off your head as you walked pass them.
So, you make think your driving record is clean, and it very well may be, but there is no telling what kind of information ChoicePoint is reporting on you to the insurance company and I would STRONGLY suggest contacting ChoicePoint to get a copy of your report (get on from your Homeowner's CLUE database as well, people have found they couldn't sell their houses because of false or overstated info in their CLUE Reports) and check to see what they are saying about you.

How do I know all of this? I used to work for ChoicePoint, they claim to want to make the world a safer place, knowing what I know about them they scare the hell out of me and make me feel a lot less safe.

ChoicePoint has European opperations, at least I believe they do, but I don't think they are on quite the same Orwellian level there as most European nations have some respect for their citizens privacy. I don't really think ChoicePoint would be able to do the things it does in the US in most other areas of the world.

I'm in NC with Nationwide Ins. When I called my agent (Mom, no kidding, but not always a good thing, ) She starts figuring stuff up, then I hear the calculator going. I hear her say $50, and muttering something else... then she's like "Ok, $58 more..." "What???? A MONTH!???"
"No, every 6 months"
Mind everyone, I was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant before I got my car.
I've had my license longer than 3 years, and no accidents or tickets in the past 3 years, which is all they care about in NC to give you the lowest rate. Also, I think I'm getting a "Home/Car Discount" or some other such thing.
My bill came in this week. The premium for 6 months 366 bucks.
I carry a fairly low deductible on my collision, and none on my comprehensive. I also have higher than state minimums for liability coverage. I could get it cheaper if I only wanted to carry the minimum, but I'm not gonna chance that.
I'm VERY happy with this side of the RX-8 ownership equation

I'm in Southern California (LA County) and pay $56 per month for my '04 RX8 and $52 per month for my '91 Miata. Yep, a $4 difference. This is with State Farm and I am 41 with a clean driving record. I do get the multi car discount but it cracks me up that I'm only paying $4 more than the Miata. The Lexus IS300 I used to have was $68 per month and my wifes Jeep Grand Cherokee is $76.

Yoink.....

My crappy insurance company actually has a list of vehicles they refuse to insure!

Went in and asked to 'add a vehicle', the lad started typing up a pink card for it, then just as he was handing it over, pulled back as he remembered to check the 'Book'.

"...let's see....Mazda....RX-7FB....Rx-7FC.....RX-7FD.....no,....no, I don't see it here, must be O.K.!"

I had to resist saying "Yoink!" :D as I took the proof of insurance from his hand!
