Sweeeeeeettt!!!

Just a brief minute to enjoy in my spoils. If you look at my location I am currently in Iraq. Been here 8 months now. The beautiful Mazda Rx-8 has been my dream car since WELL before it came out. Just WELL out of my price range. Well, for those of you that haven't had the fortunate ability to serve (statement drenched in sarcasm) although this country sucks they do pay us fairly well for being here. Tax free is a great bonus. Well, in my 8 months I've been able to pay off my old car (Yellow 2000 Ford Escort Zx2 S/R limited edition) pay off all my credit cards, and obtain a sizable down payment and great deal on financing on my car. Problem being I'm picky; I wanted a yellow under 10,000 miles. Tough to find considering all the yellows are 2004's (WHY MAZDA WHY!). Found one an hour away from my hometown at a carmax (who I bought my last car from) Fit all my wants and needs, so I started down the trail of trying to buy it. Again, fairly rough when all I really have is internet connection. The dealer told me he was only able to hold it for a maximum of five days and I just had to keep my fingers crossed. Well, that was Oct. 27th. I get a little R&R here on the 14th (FIVE DAYS!) and I was going to buy it while I was home on leave and surprise my friends and family. Well, he couldn't hold it so I was sweating bullets. Then on Monday it disappeared from the website and I about had a heart attack. I had already been approved for the loan and was happy with the terms and everything.

The car is going to total at 25992.69 (INCLUDES tax, title, tags, etc) and I'm going to put down 5992.69 and finance 20,000. I thought someone had bought the car out from underneath me. I hadn't heard anything from the dealer and sweated him for the past two days. Finally just now he emails me back and I'm planning on assassinating him. Little did I know that it went down off the website because he went and got a hold of my bank, got a buyers order put in through USAA, and is able to hold the car until I get back. In his words - It is no longer on the web site because it is no longer available - it is being sold - to you -

The only reason I'm telling you is because my friends and family haven’t congratulated me yet because they don't know, and I'm sure you all would be happy to have a new OFFICIAL member to RX-8club.com. Now I'm heading to get some rest. SOOO happy.

Plans for the car are -
darkest tint legal in VA
MazdaSpeed spoiler (matching LY of course)
HP Evo rims (black)
Audio Upgrade
Remote Starter

SOOOO excited. Sorry for the rant. I know this here is off topic, but someone who catches glimpse of this might know. Purpose of the Sway Bar? Advantages? I hear everyone talk about it and I'm car illiterate though I'm learning as much as I can. Thanks everyone.

Congrats! As a fellow LY owner I can assure you you'll not only love driving the car, but looking at it day after day. The way this color brings out the cars lines is truely amazing.

Yes sir, definatly a marine. Which is why it's a little weird we've been here so long. Normally marine deployements are only 7 months max, ours was origonally14 months, then the gov. decided they could save something like 30 million by reducing it to 12 months, cool with me. I go on leave here in four days, and then I'll only be back for about 45 days. So it will be 45 days of dreaming about my 8 everynight!

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! is Right!

As an 8 owner, I can congratulate you and I know how you feel.

In 1993 I purchased a new Mazda MX-3. That's when i saw the 3rd Gen RX-7 and dreamed of it for 4 years. After I turned 105k on my MX-3, I was at the Mazda dealer and asked if they had seen any RX-7's......they had just received a red one turned in from a lease w/49k miles on it.

Well, after 4 years, I couldn't wait....I bought it.
Then went home to tell my wife. She had no idea what an RX-7 was....but her car was an '83 280ZX, so she could drive a stick.

I took her to the dealer the next day for a test drive and to finish the paperwork. She was getting on the Interstate (I275) and was going 90 mph in 2nd gear! I believe it was at that moment that she fully understood what an RX-7 was.

Anyway, enough ramblin'. I hope you take care of your 8.

The wait is OVER. I start the trip to get a little R&R late LATE tonight. My first stop in the US will be my car dealership to pick up my 8. No one in my family has a clue I'm finally getting it, and I've had the hardest time holding it in. I just hope it's not snowing when I get there. I'm just so excited. All packed up, killing time, ready to go! Well earned is all I can say. Almost 9 months of 12 hour days everyday. I did occasionaly get a half day, which was nice, but lord do I need the break, and some good food. Thanks everyone for the support, and can't wait to own an 8!!!

Hey,

Congratulations on your new purchase! I don't have an RX-8 yet, but I graduate from College in about one month, so I will join you as an RX-8 owner soon. Have fun in your RX-8 for me until then. Thank you for your service and hurry up and get home so you can enjoy your car. Good luck and stay safe.

By the way, my family and I are all pretty sad about the passing of a close friend of ours who passed this weekend in Iraq. He was a marine, his name is David Mendez. We are all pretty sad about his passing, but we know David and all of the other marines, including yourself, are heros! Keep safe Bro!
