Upgrade to grand touring?
Hello all!
I am now ready to buy my eight and here is what I am looking for:
Winning blue
Grand touring
If it has more, okay. But that is the basic requirement list.
The dealer near me says that they have a winning blue with the touring (not grand touring) option package on it. But they would be willing to install all the different items: leather, heated/power seats, and heated mirrors.
Now, assuming the pricing is the same or better than if it had be grand touring in the first place, what are the downsides?
It seems to me that it wouldn't be that big a deal.
What are all your thoughts?

I don't trust dealership service monkeys to perform the installation correctly. The only reason I could see doing this would be to get a blue/leather combo that isn't otherwise available, like blue with the chaparral (sp) leather or something. If all you want is blue/black, I would get the real deal.

I wouldn't let them do it. First of all, I don't know why they would eat the labor costs and material when the package price would just be about $1000 more. Secondly, I wouldn't want them putting in items such as heated mirrors etc... that will probably cause you problems in the future.

Don't let the dealers do the work.
I had a similar experience. Only in my case it was the appearance package and spoiler that was missing on an RX8 that I wanted to buy. The dealer said they would order the parts and install them for me but they wanted to charge me almost $600 for labor. I new they were overcharging me so I turned them down an just ordered an RX8 from the manufacturer exactly the way I wanted it. Even though it will take 3 months for me to get it, I can save up for a bigger deposit and I know that the work done on the car will be professional.
If I were you I would have a little patience and either find a dealer that has the RX8 exactly the way you want it or order one. If your going to spend that much money you should get exactly what you want and not settle for anything less.
