VIN question for non 1,2,3rd allocations
I placed an order with my dealer for a car that was already coming to them. Delivery is said to be late september.
The VIN he gave me was only 12 digits, and started with "2003". No "JM173" or anything like that. No letters at all in fact.
Could someone explain this?

Bogus VIN
The dealer will not even know the VIN until the car has been started on the production line. If it is a Sept delivery, I doubt the car has been built yet.
I had an order in for a car that was due to deliver in Sept/Oct timeframe and it was not scheduled to be built until Aug 1st.

ProtoConvert,
Magnesium's seemed kinda harsh with his "Bogus Statment", what you have is an "Order Reference Number". And he was correct your car has not been built, that number is a place holder given from Mazda until your car gets created and then is assinged a VIN. The number is not bogus (but it's not a VIN either). I would look elsewhere, other dealers have allocations instead of waiting around for a car that hasn't been created yet. Unclaimed cars steadily have been creeping into dealerships, see if one of those meets your specs. Some investigation on your part could get you into a car sooner (my guess).

Sorry for the harshsness...
I do agree about looking around for unspoken for cars.
I ordered a GT equiped car in mid June. I was supposed to get it sometime in Oct. I decided that that wait was too long so I started looking around at other dealers and non-reserved cars coming in to my dealer.
I picked up my GT equiped RX-8 yesterday from a dealer that was nicer and more helpful than my original dealer. So keep looking, their are other cars out there.

I got the same thing from my dealer. The sheet he printed off has my VIN listed as 20030802**** (*'s are numbers I can't remember right now)
He says that he is almost possitive my car will be here in the first or second week of August, but I think he is either a liar or an idiot. From everything I've read on this forum, that is probably my estimated build date and then the car will be here at least 2 months after that.
Anyone know of a Winning blue six speed GT with a 6 disc in dash changer for sale around western Washington?

No. Do a search for dealers using the info in the "Info Leak" thread.
You can always add the 6 disc changer yourself. It's quite possible that your dealer can install it for minimal charge. Don't forget to get a credit for your existing CD changer!

I do not know where you are but I discovered that MOST of the cars at our dealership here in Ft Myers are NOT ordered but allocated. At last check they sold out but who knows - its been a week.
