Warranty Opinions

I want to get your guys thoughts on an extended warranty that I am considering purchasing. I have read through all of the other treads and it just seems to be a case by case thing, and wanted to see what you guys thought in my situation.

I have just started driving roughly 110 miles a day round trip to work and back. Below is the situation.

Currently -- 33.5k miles in service date of 10/28/2003

Factory B2B Expires -- 50k miles or 10/28/2007

Factory Powertrain Expires -- 60k or 10/28/2008

Extended B2B Expires (if purchased for $2300, covers just about everything) -- 100k miles or 10/28/2008

Just want to get some feedback from everyone on if it would be worth it or not. It seems that it could pay for itself with 1-3 things breaking on the car, since everything for this one off car is expensive. I have had the recall done, engine is very healthy, I have only had minor things fixed in the past (2 A/C control units, 1 A/C amplifier, couple moldings, shift ****, ECU flashes) just to give you history on my car. If you were to add up just the cost of those parts, no labor, it would be around $1000.

At the mileage rate above I believe I would have close to 100k on it by October 2008.

I say go for it...although are you sure that 2008 is the expiration date of it? I was thinking it was 100K/7 yrs.

Also, what is your deductible? $100's not bad, but anything above that is a lil steep for a $2300 warranty.

Your going to pay out the butt for a B2B warranty. Most of them are powertrain and such. It's likely that most of the stuff covered by B2B would either work or not by the time the factory B2B warranty expires. Save your money and get the "Mazda Stated Care" warranty. It'll cost significantly less, and covers all the parts that'll really run you up in price (and that are actaully likely to break...)

Warranty? Yes. That specific one? Depends.

Thanks for your thoughs. It is only for 5 years, I was told that since I already have 33.5k on it that the warranty company couldn't offer 7, because I asked for the longest they could offer. You are right I might check to see the price different for the Stated Care. That price is for the Preferred care, which I think is one step down from the one that covers the most.

You are right in that prefured care is as close to B2B as you can get, stated car drops a few of the smaller things, which tend to pose less break-down potential. As far as I understand, stated care covers almost everything expect a lot of the electrical system.

However, as far as I understand...everything that's both important AND pricey seem to be covered.

and yea, no way i would pay that much for only another year of coverage. That's some serious money for only that much more time...unless of course you drive coast-to-coast like every week.

Well by the time 10/2008 comes around and I am on the same pace I am now I would have right at 100k. I am going to check and see what the Stated Care costs.

I might just find me an old beater to drive back and forth to work and save the miles on the 8 for the weekends.

How does the deductible work? Is that only for warranty work you have done?
