What should I expect to pay for a car with these options?
Hi everyone - I'm new to the forum and am considering the purchase of a '8.
I used the "build and price" feature on Mazda's website to spec out the car that I'm interested in:
2004 RX-8 6-speed manual
Grand Touring Package
Navigation system
Rear wing spoiler
Mazda's website quotes this configuration at $33,555 MSRP. Any ideas on what I can expect to actually pay at the dealer? I will be wanting to lease the car.
Thanks! (great forum BTW!)

Nice Spec! Based on my purchase last week of a comparable spec I would say that $31 - $32K should get you in depending on how hungry your dealer is. I do know that there are Quota incentives for December and that may help depending on the dealer.
Good luck!!

Something else I wanted to ask along with the above... Should I be able to go to the dealer and order a car with these options? I've always "bought off the lot" in the past so I'm not familar with the order process. The local dealer doesn't seem to have the type of car that I want on the lot.

Less-Lease.
You will be able to get a much better price on it because you are LEASING not buying, so the 'price' on the documentation has almost nothing to do with the amount of money you will be parting with.
They will give you a great price off the 'sticker', then hose you on the interest rate, stick it to you on your trade, inflate the 'wear and tear' clause, tack on some riders, and finally increase the 'residual value' way above what it will be worth on the market, so your buyout becomes punitive.
But you'll probably get a 'good deal below sticker'!
Leasing is for suckers.

Thanks for the useless input, Felix. I'm fully aware of the pros and cons of leasing vs. buying. You obviously aren't too educated on leasing though since you think that the price of the vehicle doesn't have much to do with the lease price.
Obviously if Mazda's money factor (interest rate) is not in check with other financers, then I will just get the lease from a third party.
I have no trade so that won't be a factor (trading, not leasing, is for suckers).
The 'wear and tear' clause is pretty standard throughout the industry... since the lease is between me and Mazda, not me and the Dealer there is nothing that can be done at the dealer level to inflate any part of the lease.
It is actually better for me if the residual value is increased. The higher the residual the lower the payments on the lease. I don't care about a buyout... if I planned to buy the car at the end of the lease I would just buy it to begin with.

Phierce,
There is an option via the Mazda website whereby you can browse the inventory of the dealers in your area that way you can find out where the vehicle equipped as you like is located and either work a dealer trade or go to that dealer.

Phierce,
www.edmunds.com will have a fair market price for your area. It's a good start. I got mine for half the difference between invoice and MSRP. I'd say between there and invoice is where I'd be shooting. Don't let them stick you on your trade if you have one though. www.edmunds.com will have the invoice and MSRP prices as well. I'd say the difference is in the $3200 range or so.
Good luck!
