I know around here, stock seems plentiful. I didn’t have any problems getting what I wanted. But perhapse “unusual” option combinations? Are there areas of the country where the “8” is still in short supply? Just curious.

Where I am the supply is fairly limited. But, if I head 150 miles south to Dallas/Fort Worth area the supply is 10x better. As far as ordering, my dealer told me if he can't find what I am looking for he can still order it from Mazda. 1-3 month wait though. I'm not getting any unusual combo or anything so, I don't think I should have that hard a time finding it locally.

When I ordered mine, the option package I wanted was not commonly available. I had to get the sport package because I did not fit in the car with the moonroof, and finding the appearance package, spoiler and rotary accents with the sport only was impossible at the time. In fact, my dealer had to change one of their existing orders to get everything I needed. Since they altered an already existing order, I only had to wait about 6 weeks to get my car.

The RX-8 is extremely hard to get in Canada if you didn't order one, they're only bringing in 700 of them for 2004 so I've heard. There are a few sitiing in dealerships around the country but to get the color and options you want usually means you have to order it. Mine should be here next week. :D

i had a very difficult time finding the color and package i wanted. initially i was looking for a sunlight silver with the touring package but nobody in my state had one on the lot or on order. i ended up moving to the gt package just because nobody could find me a car and i didnt feel like waiting 6-8 weeks for delivery.

good thing I dont live out there in the boonies where the 8 is hard to find (no offense) Fortunately my local dealer stocked around 50 8's on their airport hanger lot a week before i visited, all i had to do was walk around the floor and take my time with the color and options. I ended up walking away with my black on black GT with 17miles on it, cuz the other two with the same color and options had 20miles on it. It was really nice to see so many 8's all lined up with no more than 50miles on each vehicle, in every concievable color and options. I probably should have taken a few pictures now that i think about it, the same hangar housed jaguars and volvos (all owned by Ford btw). Too bad the Ashton Martins are housed in a different hangar :P
oh, it might interest you to know, the dealer only ordered one or two autos in one color, so if i had wanted a black one with an auto, i would have had to waited... good thing i stuck with the 6speed, it is sweeeeeet
Good times ppl, good times.

I don't buy new cars often. This will be only my 3rd in 20 years. So by the time I see the dealer, I know EXACTLY what I want, and I don't mind waiting a few months to get it. So far that's always ended up being orders. I guess I have odd taste.
