I may as well update while im here and mention that I am working on a couple of things at the moment, I am fabing a new exhaust system as I wasn't happy with the old one, it was a 4" system which is just too big so I am going to a 3" system. Hopefully will get less unawanted attention.
The other thing is the addition of a new gearbox

The last time I updated this thread I mentioned that I was making a new exhaust system and getting a new gearbox, well my new box has finally been finished and I picked it up yesterday

Once the box goes back in I can finish the exhaust which was put on hold due to there being no driveline on the car.

New exhaust 90% complete. It is 3" straight through with an X-Force Varex muffler single exit.

 

New 6 speed direct replacement with straight cut dog engagement gears and custom ratios.

 

all internals are replaced and upgraded including Billet shift forks, input, output and lay shaft.

I had been wondering if that Miata/Aisin 6-spd kit would direct transfer into the RX8 housings. There are some slight differences between the two gearboxes. It's been a past discussion point on the forum. Found their webpage maybe 4 or 5 years ago, but they never replied to my inquiry.

 

Amazing gear box I would love something like that in the future. Look forward to your feed back once installed. Hopefully it is not too noisy for daily use.

 

They sell a helical synchronizer version too

Wow its been a long time since I've posted on here.

Just to answer a couple of questions, the box is the best mod I've done so far, having dog engagement is the only way to be able to change gears at 9k rpm in a split second. the straight cut gears are a bit noisy but I love it because it sounds like a mental race car

Yeah I have made a few lazy attempts to sell it but still have it, im not fussed either way, we will see what happens I guess
