I have the factory 6spd in my rew swap. The motor makes 426whp and 304tq. It seems to be holding up good. Knock on wood.

from what I have gathered you can also use the tranny from 350Z all you need is some sort of an adapter I am not sure if T56 would mate with REW motor..
Personally I don't see the point. I have been running a RX-8 5 speed ( basically an FD tranny with different bellhousing and tailshaft) at more than 500 WHP and haven't hd issues yet. Basically you can break anything...but with just a bit of care the 5 speed seems to tolerate 500 without issues The 6 speed on the other hand....at 425+ you are living on borrowed time so start looking now ;) |

I agree, the 6 speed is holding up for now but I will definitely be in the market for the 5speed soon. |

Why should it be any different then?

How does the 6 speed feel with the rew? I have a custom built one with billet sincro-mesh gears that i ran 450whp with on my rx8 without issues but switching to rew and dont really wanna build a new trans
You should be fine as long as you are a bit careful. It won't like violent drag starts or wheel hop... but that will break the FD tranny just as easily |
I'll be running a 370z JK40C trans.

I know that the 6 speed might not last long and people usually get the JDM 5 speed one because its similar to the FD3S transmission. But I am just going to use my 6 speed temporarily. Maybe you can go with the S2 transmission?

You can run a T56...but will have to do a TON of fabricating to get it to work...including re-doing the transmission tunnel because it won't fit properly....and fabricating mounts for both the tranny and diff...and building a new driveshaft

Where did you get your 5sp RX8 trans from? I haven't even started looking for one yet, but I read your comment and if I could find one in Canada that would be a mega bonus. I am also planning to run with the 6sp for now but I'm aiming for 450 whp so.... |
I got some from a JDM importer about 3 years ago.... before they knew they were rare...

The RX8 5-spd drives better than the FD3 version because the first three gears have been upgraded to triple synchros like the 6-spd has. They sell them new now through Mazda Motorsports, but it’s a bit steep even for new; maybe $2600 or something. I saw the bellhousing only listed too (mid $350 range) but not the tailshaft. Probably marketing those for RX7 push clutch conversions.
I’m working on possibly obtaining another used PAR dog-engagement gearset, this one for the S1 AZ 6 spd. It’s only going to suitable for track though due to radical close ratio changes. 1st is steeper than the OE 2nd gear. :Eyecrazy: No drag starts with that, lol. It was originally bought for an NA13BPP engine in an RX8 chassis. |
