JDM 13b Swap

JDM 13b Swap
Hi all. I am new to RX8 and picked up an automatic 2005. Unfortunately, the guy that sold it to me did not tell me it was low on compression and a few days later the car became hard to start. Long story short I purchased a new JDM 13b engine and told the company that I had an automatic.
So I pulled my engine out while waiting for the JDM 13b to come in. It finally came in and noticed it was a manual 13B swap. While pulling the automatic transmission off of the bad motor I notice the rear section where the transmission bolts to is different along with starter and counter weight. I planned on finishing this swap by the weekend. My questions are:
1) Will this MT Engine still work?
2) Can I swap rear section from my blown auto to the JDM Manual?
3) Can I swap counter weights?
4) Any other parts that are different from auto to manual that I need to swap?
I purchased the JDM engine as a longblock replacement but wasn't expecting a manual 13b to arrive. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hopefully it's the 13B MSP which is an RX8 engine. You say it's a JDM Engine so it's possible it's a 4 port like your car was(JDM had a 4 Port/5 Speed Manual combo, in the US, Manual cars were only sold with the 6 port engine). If it is a 4 port it should work, if it's a 6 port you have a lot more work.
Sounds like you're already in over your head.

13B doesn't mean much....Is it a 13B-MSP? 13B-RE? 13-REW?

I will check tomorrow to see if both motors are 6 port for sure but they were identical side by side. Unfortunately, I can't contact them until Monday.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. But it beats starting a new one. My 8s engine is shot and I can get a used JDM imported 4 port for less than $2k. Is this a simple swap from pulling the usdm renesis and installing the JDM renesis or is there more to it than that. Thanks for any input.

A) Is your car currently a 4-port? If it's a 6-port you might as well ignore it
B) You can get a US spec used 4-port for well under $2k. $2k is where basic rebuilds start at, assuming you can re-use most components. I'd pay $2k for a rebuild before I'd pay $2k for a used engine.
C) I believe the engine core hardware is the same as US 4-ports (or anywhere else in the world), just don't use the JDM electronics.

Hello RIWWP,
mine is a 2004 4 port auto. I'm pretty sure its shot. I was driving home lost all power and stalled. Flashing cell and sounds like its running on 1 rotor. Won't hold an idle. Everywhere I've looked wants $3k+ for a rebuild and $2200+ for a used engine. The one I was suggested is compression tested and has a 30 day start up warranty. I'm trying to figure the most affordable option. I'll gladly take all the help and suggestions I can get

Used engines on the forums here typically go for $1,100-$1,500 from a known good car. Ones with unknown history are more like $700ish.

Thanks RIWWP!
Ill definitely give Kevin a shout. I will be on the hunt for what my best options are. I appreciate it. In your experience is it a bad idea to buy a good compression tested engine with under 50k miles?

I was wondering what the forum hiccup was and why it took longer to show up on iSpy... Al got it though.
Not a bad idea, I just think you could do better on price. If you are comfortable with the price and feel comfortable that it is a good option for you, go for it.

I was very comfortable with the price until you said I could find one here for $1100-$1500 Lol. I guess I'll just save and pull the trigger on the right one. I just hope I can get some miles out of it. My last engine was replaced with a reman supposedly and lasted 32000 and had a wobbling pulley almost the whole way. I want to avoid that again. Fwiw I ran nothing but 10-w40 Castro every 3k miles and premixed valvoline 2 cycle for the last 20,000 miles of its life. I don't think I had a rebuilt engine. I think they swapped a junkyard motor in. Who knows

I need help finding an engine for my RX8. Is there anyone here who can recommend a good source for RX8 Jdm engine ?
I have an automatic transmission one.
I don't want a junk yard one.
There are vendors who lie that the engine is from Japan but they buy one from a Junk yard and sell. I am expecting some help here.
I am currently leaning towards buying a low mileage engine from Engine World Inc in Houston. There website is Japanese Engines | Used Japanese Engines | Used Japanese Engine | JDM Engines
