LiveWire's 13B-REW build thread

Assembled the motor and it was pretty fun. Makes 6 equal sounding pulses of air, hopefully it tests well and runs ok.
Having a few of the custom parts I made cnc'ed professionally by a new company a few people I know are starting. Eventually, they should be commercially available for the 13brew and this type of swap. Pretty neat stuff going on there.

In the meantime, does anyone know where I can get straight cut gears for an Rx8 5spd transmission? I believe Rx7 FD gears will fit inside. Pretty new to this stuff, so feel free to educate as you see fit. My searching so far has only led to straight cut & dog engagement gears, but to save a bit of $ I would like just straight cut with no dog engagement if available.

I was talking to them about a gearset for my car. Didn't have the extra $6k right now.
Why not the RX8 gearset for added simplicity?

The 5 spd is stronger regardless, with the extra tq 6 spd isn’t really necessary, and the 5spd gearset linked above is a lot cheaper (under $3.8k AUD = $3250 USD shipped to USA)
and he has the 5 spd RX8 box, which other than having the RX8 specific bellhousing and tailshaft is identical to the FD3. So there is no “simplicity” difference.

I thought there was one pulse per rotor face? I had made a dozen or so full e-shaft rotations all making equalish pulses so it sounds like I should be covered.
Ironically, I actually reached out to PAR to confirm if they had an FD straight cut synchromesh set about two month ago. That's exactly who I'm planning to purchase from. The dog engagement is a bit overkill for my application since I will still be driving on the street more than the track.
Had I seriously researched the subject, I could have stayed with the 6spd and went with a gearset set from PAR for that transmission. Not really a big deal however as it probably all comes out in the wash.

It’s a **** to work on since the main case is a closed design rather than a top or bottom loader style case. I wish they had put the effort into the NC/S2 top loader box instead. That would be the 6 spd gear box ticket ....
Which you would have still needed to swap your S2 box for an S1. I can supply either one

Guess I should have also mentioned that Par-Engineering also has both the synchro and dog cut gearsets available for the S2 6-spd trans too, same prices as the S1 Aisin trans that are listed. Everything is built to order with an 8 - 12 week lead time. Their website only lists a small portion of the gearsets they offer in total. So anyone with any of the three available RX8 transmissions can get whatever flavor gearset they want. WPC treatment included, free gear ratio changes included.

The Par-Engineering gearset prices above are AUD. The current USD exchange rate provides a lower cost than what you see above or on their website. So a $6k AUS gearset is about $4.6k USD. A friend just ordered one and freight was $240 USD.
That puts the FD3/RX8 5 spd synchro gearset at around $3,250 USD shipped. Seems like a good deal to me given the features and included options.

Well its been a hot minute! There is a "good" reason for my long absence - the forum's favorite vendor strikes again. What started as a 1 year turbo kit project turned into a 4 year (literally) project. Luckily I got some semblance of a complete kit, at least enough to continue with now. All I can say at this point is buyer be warned. Things like this make it hard to trust anyone. As a complete novice, I could have fabricated the kit myself with that time frame.
Time to move forward.
My secondary reason for what should have been a brief absence is that I have officially moved out. I bought a place with my eldest brother, and a generous gift from my parents. We are both car guys, and this place was a diamond in the rough, although there are quite a few house projects to take care of. I need to find a way to poop some gold bricks... Anyway the house (not shown) is a moderate sized house with a 6 car attached garage. I actually live inside a 60x40 outbuilding. Below are a few pictures I snapped tonight after the Rx8s last wash with the Renesis inside. Enjoy!
I am also thinking of snatching up a blue Honda Fury very soon - because you know - bad decisions are good.
I never imagined one picture would contain so much $$$$$

Interested in this in a down the road project, so keeping an eye on the thread to see your pain to prepare myself in a few years when I'm ready to be a masochist. What I think most people will be waiting for is to hear about your tears of joy when you are finished and get to drive it for the first time
If you figure out the pooping gold bricks thing, drop a PM because I could use some of that extra funds; promise I'll use it for good; not just the 8 but helping others too! ROFL
