also did something similar with the brake line as it was very close to the turbine housing. i ended up just wrapping the brake line its self is double layer of heat shielding.
Update electrical is about 60 percent done just finishing up the engine harness. Need ic piping upper rad hose cooling fans and ecu and she is done so close I’m super excited. For cooling fans plan on buying a used set of rx8 fans and an rx7 shroud as that shroud works with my rad and the rx8 fans should fit right into the shroud and plug right into the harness have to extend wires though. Anyone have any input into the upper rad hose pics for reference. been trying different random hose and can get one to work perfectly. If not might just weld up a pice of aluminum pipe and leave enough room for couplers on each end. Just very slow on the progress lately just built a turbo Miata for my buddy ( a lot easier to finish when it’s someone elses money and you get paid haha) and and currently rebuilding my Subaru so getting in 8 work while I can but unfortunately I need my Subaru back for a driver and winter haha so that comes first. I know it’s not relevant or a rotary or rx8 but will post picks of Miata and subie too sorry. Also super cool I have power again obviously because I got the electrical and battery hooked up but was so excited to see the dash and gauges again haven’t in 3 year really gave me some motivation to finish this car.
Oh really I guess I’m mistaken then I thought the rx8 fans where fairly good. Why are the not recommended can’t keep up with the extra heat from the turbo? Any recommendations on something better then.
I heard to always use the oem rx8 shroud, not sure about the fan though. I had the same idea they were sufficient. Nice surge tank there, I may end up needing one also..we’ll see.
I wouldnt drive my car in this Texas summer heat anyways, especially not this year.

Yeah based off of my research was that the rx8 fans where a good option but I could be wrong based off of what team was saying. I would use the rx8 shroud but my v mount was for fd rx7 so the shroud would bolt right up to my rad so that’s why I was going to use the 7 shroud but if the 8 one is better I can always modify it to work with my radiator. Any input on fan set up would be great. And thanks I think the fuel cell in the trunk turned out fantastic as well as the battery being back there as well now. Oh yeah some times a little to much going on in my garage and it’s not huge but I make it work but yes alway fun to work on different projects.
My advice is anecdotal at best. Team has done a lot of track work so he probably understands heat management as good as anyone. Come to think of it, the whole oem shroud was for a renesis with aftermarket radiator.
Currently I’m using a koyo rad with the rx8 fan/shroud. Car is being tuned, but having issues with Adaptronic ignition and mapping. Once it has more street time I could give more insight.
But when I broke the engine in on a break in tune, it was near 100* day and had 0 problems with the oem needle moving, yet to have installed an aftermarket digital system to monitor exact temps. Again anecdotal but hope it helps.
I’d still look for a FAL etc. fan/shroud assy to fit instead though. It will be way superior to the OE fan flow.
the REW conversion I bought from Stroker has the Koyo S1 and FAL420 setup, but not a v-mount. If anything I’d prefer the next step up for the fans, think it’s the FAL490. He was worried about them fitting being taller. It’s close, but should fit. He used the RX8 front cover though.

Definitely Team's advice is the proper way to do it and would net the best cooling results under all conditions. But if it's something you want to get by on for now and upgrade later I'm using a completely stock Rx8 water cooling system with the fans kicking in stage 1 at 175F and stage 2 at 180F. I'm finding cruise temps in 70-80F ambient (typical for us northern folk) are between 170-180F and never surpass the 185F point in traffic/stop light idling. This is of course for a street driven application; tracking it would likely net completely different results.
Again this is not under sustained boost and I'm just on a somewhat preliminary tune for 10PSI of boost driving around the city; but this is also on a stock location rad with FMIC in front of that.

Great i will look for a fal 420 or 490 fan assembly depending on what fits. i already have a koyo rad so i should see good cooling results then with those fans. As i do plan on tracking the car in the future and i know heat management is very critical for that and team would know what works best for that. So i will just do it once with the proper fan set up. thank you guys for the input
Hello haven't posted in a long time. Car is all wrapped up except ECU and engine harness. I made the engine harness a while ago for the Adaptronic PNP ECU but now that is not an option as that ECU is no longer for sale. My question is can I just use a Haltech ECU make an engine harness for that ECU and use a Haltech dash and run the car fine. I know it gets weird with can bus systems so this has made me at a stand still for a while because of the ECU issue. I know I will lose the dash, traction control maybe abs and power steering. Is this a possibility to just run the Haltech and still have a usable car I know all the other body electronics will work as i have them working lights, starter, blower motor, ect. Thanks guys.

I would recommend you the Maxxecu ECU. It will support the RX8 CAN BUS protocol without retaining the OEM ECU. Dash, TC and Power steering will work. It is possible to make a PNP patch or a standalone harness for the ECU.

I was under the impression Haltech was capable of running all the Rx8 CAN protocols too......
Talked with tuned by Shawn about his swap harness. He said that the Haltech works as a stand alone unit. He says the ECU will run the can bus and all factory functions work as they should. Warrior777 you have personally used this? What issues did you have that you need to run the factory ECU. I'm assuming issues with the can bus and not communicating with the car.
Spoke with Brad (Warrior) on FB this morning, he also talked to Shawn and I think there was just some confusion, sounds like the stock ECU is needed if running the 13B-MSP (but not for an REW swap). Sounds like this is maybe due to the quantity I/O's needed to run the 13B-MSP (likely for all the intake valves). Hope I'm not speaking too soon, but Brad was going to follow up with Shawn again for a little more clarification.
I’m sort of with Jose about using the Maxx ecu instead when that day comes since I have a Hotel7 DCT transmission conversion kit on the shelf, which it can run directly.

Addition to last post. Looked a little more on the MaxxECU website. Looks like the MaxxECU Pro and Race will both support factory can bus and aftermarket modules not %100 sure how that would tie into the Rx8 can bus.

As Team said , Maxxecu can drive the a dct gearbox natively. I also heard they will support zf8 trans. Price for the Race with wiring and Lambda sensor is around 1.6k euros, quite cheaper than haltech. Their android app is very good, you can have a tablet in the car for displaying critical info.
Wiring is pretty straightforward, I recommend you to buy the bundle as their wiring is nicely labeled. Later, you can use the emod013 pinout as a guide.
Ive been lurking on the k swap facebook page for awhile. I talked to Shawn for a bit even though im still on the fence between Haltech/Link. Last thing im buying and needing. But the K swap boys seem to not be running factory ECUs. Whatever turbo manifold they like to run is snaked where factory ECU is.
Edit; ive also played with the nexus desktop software and there are drop down menus for RX8 can bus on it.
