Swapping Rx-7 turbo set up into Rx-8
#27
I guess to problem is I'm an automotive enthusiast and most people on this forum are rx8 nut swingers. I was simply commenting that this vehicle is limited among others, how do I unlimit it without spending ten grand. The answer is its no possible, just drive it for what it is. Thanks for the great input everyone. I remember now why I haven't been on this forum in over a year.

... I am an open minded car enthusiast as well. I like all kinds (drag, truck, jeep, super car, etc.). You have to remember not all cars are in the same bundle. You cant have a drag cobra and expect it to do well in corners and you cant have a nimble rx8 and expect it to do well in a drag. It just is what it is.

simple solution. Sell your 8 and buy a mustang or another z06.
It's not our fault or the cars fault that you did no research before purchasing you car. Had you done that, you wouldn't be on an RX8 forum bitching about the price of horse power to a bunch of people that love their cars for what they are, are planning on spending the money necessary for the power they want, or have already spent the money for the power they want.
Posting pictures of vettes and mustangs won't make the price of speed go down, nor will it make your 8 any faster. Whatever you do with your 8 or the next car you buy, research what you're getting into first. It will save you money and headaches in the long run, as well as help you keep some self respect by not looking like a newb douche that is way over his head and talking out of his *** to a large group of people who actually enjoy their cars just as they currently have them.

Dont.
Go buy a GTO.
If you already know what you're getting into then why do it again? Stop bashing the 8. Go buy a different car that will match your criteria and let us enjoy it.
I would argue that strait line, autox, he'll even in reverse a gto is an all around better car. Besides the power difference and ease to mod ls motors have no problem
running to 150k miles a feat that I don't think any rx8 has ever done on 1 motor. I'm not trying to start a pissing match, the car is fun to drive I'm just trying to
understand all the hype. What am I missing?

Jared, I have some of the same feelings you do with the 8. I got the 8 after a 350z, and while driving the car I didn't initially notice the slower acceleration in comparison. I only noticed it after dragging with my friends 350z on to the highway. But, here are the things I did notice: certain bends and turns I was able to take at speeds about 3-8mph faster than the Z. At the one autocross I did with the 8, I had a horrible day. With the helmet on, I had to take the most awkward driving position because my head rubbed against the roof if I didn't. between that, and my bad tranny, my times were about 3-5 seconds slower than they could have been been. But you know what? I was still beating nearly every single mustang and camaro there, and that included gt500's. the only cars I was losing to were miatas running slicks, s200's, evos, sti's, lotuses and Z's. Also, the only mustangs that beat me were also running slicks. You need to appreciate the car for what it's worth: A well balanced, good handling, predictable car.

+1 the 8 has an awesome chassis. You can always add power but you can only do so much to a chassis. It's a great platform to start with, if you want do do an engine swap you better start saving. I suspect there will be an 13 rew conversion kit on the market in a few years

If you know how to weld or have a friend that could do you some work, and also have some electrical background(nothing crazy like hacking pcm's and crap like that) it's really not that hard to transplant a 13rew into an 8. There are a lot of little fabrications like brackets which take up alot of time. Hell I could write up a DIY and a list of parts if I had a **** load of time.

There's no point in installing the REW engine when you can accomplish the sane thing with your existing engine and avoid all the transplant BS. In fact, it's kind of dumb. Well not even kind of.
