Brad, with the Rx8 front cover are you not able to fit the stock FD thermostat housing and water pump? If not, just another thing to keep in mind is that the FD thermostat housing also doubles as the alternator mount.

no, that separate ewp adapter piece is integral on the Renesis front cover and unlike the 13B engines, it bolts on as one whole piece rather than being separate pieces. I’m looking at having that top pump adapter part of the Renesis cover machined off to then use the FD ewp adapter instead. Which eliminates the top alternator mount as well. The alternator will then be hard-mounted on the side of the Renesis cover where the AC compressor was and use the AC belt adjuster for belt tension. Which I already have the pulley setup for it. Just have to make the alternator adapter to line it all up. Purely a race setup unless you can live without the AC.

I understand what you’re saying though. They will remake that Renesis bolt-on piece that has both the radiator inlet and outlet connections and also houses the t-stat so that those connections come out to the front rather than the side to open up more room on the side of the engine for turbo piping etc. I had considered all that too, but decided to just convert the Renesis cover to be more like the 13B cover instead as described previously.

Team, at that point for your application, rather than getting machine work done etc, would it not just be easier to swap in the REW front cover? Or would that require a multitude of other changes? CAS would be the only major item I can think of on the spot.

currently have a Renesis cover on the one engine, but eventually intend/hope to have a dry sump cover.

It probably is but I’m going to be stubborn about it. I’m trying very hard to keep a/c and the OMP. As well as the stock CAS.
Like Team mentioned I’m looking for JDL to make a bolt on piece that retains the alt mount, thermostat housing and redirects all the inlet, outlets forward. I had someone weld something like that already. It’s pictured early in my thread.

who are you talking to at JDL?

I sent them an email and never heard anything. So not sure if it bounced as spam or they blew me off?

thanks

Currently am having JDL customize my surge tank to fit dual Fuelab brushless pumps (42mm OD) and not machine the 4 post terminals for the pumps in the hangers, but instead thread holes into the top of the surge use the bulkheads that come with the pumps (use the same thread size as 8 AN).

Not sure if you have Facebook or not Team, but that's how I've gotten ahold of them without any issue. But I had an order number already when I inquired about it.

Don't worry I wish I could get rid of my FB, but just too much involvement in it (mostly cars). Also might be worth calling them to see then. I don't have my parts yet but so far I am very pleased with JDL.

I went ahead and messaged JDL through Facebook messenger and got a reply fairly quickly.
Here is a screen shot of the conversation.

ok then, I was planning to old-school phone them, but mostly looking for a contact name to reference when I call.

just making sure you already saw the top water pump T-stat adapter with either a -16 or -20 AN connection. I think you have to search for RX8 to find it on the website;

apology for posting this here in your thread, but since it was where we were discussing the subject … I managed to get my hands on a Sakebomb EWP adapter kit for the Renesis through Paul F. on here and apparently it’s just a one-off deal or full production prototype. Because it’s not on their website and they also posted on their vendor area here that they decided against a Renesis kit due to lack of interest. The thing that caught my attention though is that I had never really paid attention to their kit.

I always assumed it was just a flat plate to replace the mechanical water pump with the front cover flow cavity wide open, but they instead 3-D machined the pump replacement piece out of a large chunk of aluminum to fill the pump impeller cavity in the front cover and control the flow into the engine. Below is the similar version for it on the REW, but the Renesis one I have seems to be a bit nicer wrt the machined flow channel and tricked out anodizing. So now I’m thinking this along with a plate having AN fittings to replace the OE t-stat housing is the likely way to go for me.

That’s really nice. Maybe I should email them and beg them to produce one more as I most likely will need to go this direction sometime in the future.

here are the pics for the Renesis version, it even has a slotted mounting hole on the one bolt position that’s different between the S1 and S2 water pump for it to fit both.(red circle)

It’s also fully finished with the logo/letters appearing to have been CNC’d afterward. Now that I’m looking at it closer, it’s worthy of the TeamRX8 2-thumbs up endorsement. 👍👍

This is a very nicely done part.

A very nice looking piece indeed!

@Warrior777 if they are unwilling to produce anymore and you're interested in getting one made maybe Team would be willing to send it over to me for 3D scanning? the piece itself should be easy to replicate, but 3D scanning could go a long way to help recreate the water cavity. Then either just take that file to a machine shop, or do some investment casting of aluminum.

Just a thought if it does become a serious "want".

I sent them a message, so let’s see what they say.

If you want to 3D something though, an REW engine in the RX8 chassis without intake or exhaust manifolds on that RH side of the engine would be so awesome …

Thanks Mark.
As far as changing intake and exhaust manifolds on the RH side of the car that seems like wishful thinking, maybe something Santa Clause can deliver.

you might be better off trying direct, apparently they chose not to respond to me. I’ve been known to break a fragile ego or two over the years

Mark,
The more I read about T321 that's what I decided to go with. I actually ordered from aceraceparts yesterday. Sure, I can sell you 12 inches of the straight 321 pipe. DM me.

Okay, It looks like Turbosource/turblown is getting the 8374 back in stock, so I will be purchasing soon. I have a couple questions I wanted to run by you guys before I do.
Is the main difference between the iron and aluminum CHRA weight savings? Is there a big need to get aluminum?
What EFR wastegate canister is best? I was thinking medium boost which is about 19 psi. My goals are a solid 400-450 hp.

Also, I'm going to get a speed sensor and the Inconel turbine housing shield.

The Inconel turbine housing shield may be a tight fit down there, as in a lot more of the subframe rail would need cut. Just a FYI. I am thinking of getting my heat coated but is something I should probably consider as well.

Turbo selection, why not go for the 8474?
