you know what I hate about Vancouver is the lack of motorsports stuff other than drag racing and quarter mile stuff....
either that or I'm just not "in the know" to know about them...
but after some calling and looking around today I've decided against the exhaust... they do minimal for power... thinking of the lighter weight flywheel now... just worried about normal drivability (heard it's easier to stall?) even though I haven't stalled it or grind any gears for the last 3 months since it's my first manual car

what bang and what buck do you know from a flywheel?
There is nothing bang for buck for power gain for many NA, RX-8 is not immune. Spend money on sways, it will deliver even in normal driving. You will feel no/minimal tilt in the car with a good sway bar

I would be wary of the underdrive pulleys that are on the market at this time. Seems like a few don't work quite as advertised. And as for going straight for the lightweight flywheel...that may or may not be a wise choice for the first mod. Especially if he lives in a hilly area, that lightweight fly may be a hassle. At least go for the RB sways, to improve handling. Personally, I love the sound and look of the RB exhaust. But if you want more performance, maybe get stiffer end links (Agency Power, through Vivid Racing) and some braided clutch and brake lines (also Agency Power, through Vivid.)

If I had to do everything over again from scratch, I would do CZ Stage 1 (and tune it), coilovers, flywheel, exhaust. I've got the KN intake in and I can't wait to take that POS out and put back the stock box + CZ Stage 1. I agree with the folks suggesting suspension, I just put on springs and WOW what a difference. Take a ride in someone's 8 with springs or coilovers, then get back in your car, big difference.
