$150 for cobb AP

found one close to me and the guy is asking for $150, sold his rx8 so he no longer needs it. is it worth the money, i know they are now discontinued. im just skeptical that it can really do that much for our cars. i have never looked much into them so hearing your arguments against my statement will probably be more convincing then anything i may read about it. it seems as though it can do minor tunes and reset check engine lights, but is that about it?

We've got 2 rather large threads on the benefits of the COBB accessPORT as well as various other threads related to performance aspects, tuning and datalogs. I'd suggest looking there if you are unsure about the benefits of the unit.

While $150 is a pretty good price, do keep in mind you'll need to find a tuner in order to create a calibration for your RX8 unless you plan on doing it yourself so factor that in as well.

The AP is also now available exclusively at www.mazdamaniac.com as well in case the sale falls through.

Folks,

Does he have to make sure it has been uninstalled from the original car? If the guy sold the car tuned, the Cobb will not re-install, right?

^^^^ What 04Green said. just make sure the AP is "unmarried" from the previous car. If not then the unit is worth $0 (or close to it)

ok i will message the guy and ask if its been disconnected from his previous car. i will begin researching the thread for some more info, but one question is what do you mean i will need a "tuner" i thought the general idea of the AP was for the owners "us" to be able to do the tuning ourselves?

Have you ever tuned a PCM before? If you don't have the training and are unwilling to pay someone to do it, I would suggest that you reconsider your purchase and let it go to somone who understands that a tuner or tuning knowledge is needed to use the Cobb AP. You can experiment if you wish but we will be taking odds on how soon you blow the engine.

no, i have never tuned a PCM before, but i do have the intentions on one day learning. i am rather car savvy and i learn quick so im just going to start researching and taking in info. we all started from ground zero at one point or another. by next spring i also plan on doing a FI set up of some kind. im thinking i like the idea of the pettit SC. it has the most stock look which attracts me to it. which is why i want to get the AP, so i can begin the process of learning this cars computer.

and if anything, maybe i will buy it then resell it

there are a few more for sale that i have found for around the $150-200 range
