C&D said they got a best of 5.9 when dropping the clutch @7500-ish. It doesn't really matter how fast you get there, it's how much better you look while getting there... :D

high 5's at best, most probably low 6 or even mid 6. it's not a great 0-60 car. realistically, mid 6's. nobody is going to be dropping the clutch at 7.5k every day. i dont' suggest you ever do it, unless you got tons of money to throw at a new clutch. low 5's is a dream.

Stuck in a love triangle
I was originallygoing to get a Mazda 6s in automatic until I saw the Rx8. The Mazda6s was very fastfor a sedan and it handled corners prettywell too. But notthe way the Rx8 does. Doesnt have the turningradius of the Rx8 either. I think it had 220 horsepower though. Im not 100%sure about this but I think the Mazda 6s auto may actuallybe faster than the automatic Rx8 at least from 0 - 60 b/c I remember in the test driveit felt faster using its 5 speed tiptronic. I wonderwhy they didnt use the same 5 speed automatic transmission for the Mazda6s w/the automatic Rx8.
I never got to drivea stick Mazda6s b/c they were rare to find and most peopledont buy sedans w/stick anyway but Imsure it mustbe pretty intense. I thoughtI read though inold reviews back when I was going to getthat car that the 6s did 60 in 6.9 seconds?? If the Mazda 6s in stick canreally do 60 in 6.2 seconds than it could definitelygive a 6speed Rx8 a runfor its money well at least in a straight line. I guess youmust have been dropping from a pretty high RPM to get itthat low. But Iremember that the 6s starts slowing down after about70 so the Rx8 wouldstill probably have a faster 1/4 mile since it just gets faster and faster. But forall we really know the 6speed Rx8s real horsepower figure might actuallybe closer to 225 than 238 so who knows.
But lets not forget that the 6 doesnt even come closeto the looks of the Rx8. Also the resale value of the Mazda6 was horrible b/c Mazda kept givingout so many rebates for them.

Though the RX8's low torque doesn't help...

My best is 6.95 with no wheel spin--normal start.
I don't want to know what the 7500 RPM tire smoking start will do to my car, but several magazines have reported around 6 seconds with no mods. Even consumer reports got 6.5.

I have driven both and auto, and a manual 8. I bought the auto unfortunately, but even the manual isn't as fast as my dad's 745i. R&T tested that @ 5.9 seconds; the differance is in the low-end torque. The RX has no torque, so 0-60 times are gonna suffer. The auto is probably in the mid 7's. I have a midpipe, and a K/N intake with a custom heat shield and ram-air setup, and I feel a little more pull than stock, but the auto is slow. I believe 60 in 5.9 for the 8, and 5.6 to 5.7 with exhaust, ECU, and intake is about right.

My Teg GSR does 15.02@93. And the only mods there were tires (to replace the slippery stock Michelin XGTs). Now I'd estimate it'll match the 14.8 #202 got.
I'm REALLY interested in the 8, but 14.8@94 isn't enough to justify the cash now
