Yeah I agree it was a great car regardless of transmission. I guess for me, I have been driving manual's for years and I wanted to get away from it, but eventually it pulled me back.
However the improved performance and feeling of the MT in the 8's is a good reason to not want the auto unless you absolutely NEED an automatic

So he can run 16 second 1/4 miles instead of 17 seconds? If you're after speed and think an AT RX-8 needs FI then go buy another car.

Pettit's AT just did a 0-100 in 14 seconds

The point is, though, you'll have many more options with the MT, you'll be pretty quick as stock, and you feel more in control of the car, which leads you to become one with the car. It's really fun, especially during spirited driving.

I used to own an 04 AT. it is a great car Not very fast but still a great car. It still handles great driving around turns on a nice mountain road. But I upgraded to an 06 MT and I have never been happier. Is it more fun? I think so. But take them for a test drive and that will answer your question of which one you feel better in. As for making it faster "FI"

Street racing? You cant be talking track. Most modified Civics(not the ricers) thats worth anything will give most
any car on the street a run for their money. A lot of the honda guys I know change out to acura(stock) engines run 13's and then theres the turbos, NOS.

Who cares about 1/4 mile? Getting a decent powerband, and making better use of the long gearing is benefit enough. Not everyone is looking for ultimate power.

That's a retarded statement.

You've modified your Evo and your old WRX. Why didn't you just go buy a faster car in the first place? People mod 1970's Volvos and are thrilled to get 130whp out of them. Most car people will modify any car they own, you of all people should understand that.

Gotta wonder if all the MT 8 owners know there 8's are not the fastest, quickest vehicle to been ever built.

Just because some people like Autos they get flamed and told should have bought somthing else?

Maybe this site should be renamed "RX8Club/MT.COM"?

Well, hes trying to make the car quicker. Going with an auto to make an rx8 fast isnt exactly smart, cheap or easy to do. I know its against the rules to flame based on transmission type but this kid doesnt own, hes considering owning. And given what he is trying to do, which seems like racing, he shouldnt even bother geting an AT..

he asked for opinions and we gave it to him...

If you haven't even purchased the car and already you feel the need to upgrade, then the rx8 is not for you. Seriously, please drive the car before you buy. The test drive sold me on the car. I'm happy with my 04AT as well but every now and then I get the itch for an MT. I'm 100% positive the only reason for that is b/c I visit this forum.

I'm just not stupid enough to lose all that money on a trade since I bought new. I'll revisit AT/MT when I get my next car depending upon my needs and location at the time.
