04 RX-8 Switchblade key and and FOB where to get?

All,
I have looked throught the posts on here and it appears 04 RX-8 owners can replace there FOB and key combinations with a switchblade key setup. Some of the information I have found here seems dated or key purchase locations not valid anymore?

My questions are:

1.) Where can I buy the switchblade fob/key combo?
2.) What should I expect to pay for everything?
3.) I have both the original keys and fobs.
4.) What should be the total cost to get this done??

Thanks in advance,

Rx8driver

you can get the key here.

So is $170.00 the least expensive option I have then? I got the impression from other posts that people were putting the whole thing together for sub $100 prices?

Thanks for the info.

can you post the ebay item number or link?

I search just a while ago for rx8 switchblade and found only one with a key that had already been cut.

Every once in a while, one goes up for sale on the site here. They go real quick though. I got mine through the site.

you didn't look very hard then.

he had 4 of them, with blanks, $80 each. It's a 10 day auction, 2 days remaining. Zero sold so far.

When I got mine, I got the transmitter from eBay and the blank from Rosenthal Mazda's website.

I had to convince a local locksmith to cut the key for me; he was concerned the key wouldn't work. I told him to cut it so it will work the physical lock, I will take care of the programming.

He cut it for me for free and five minutes later I had the key and remote programmed for my car.

The blank at Rosenthal is $40, one auction I found on eBay had the remote for $70. Just make sure you get one with a truck button. One guy has a remote for sale but it doesn't have a trunk button. It looks more like a Mazda 3 or 6 remote to me. Just like normal - buyer beware.

I would be nice if you could post the link for me! I searched on:
rx8 switchblade
mazda switchblade
switchblade.

Just tell me what you used as a search term. Obviously the ebay lister isn't using the right keywords.

Well, if you used (rx8,rx-8) key, it would have found any combination.

Key Fob & Switchblade Key on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-...mZ200140844059

They advertise it for '05-07 RX-8s. Do you mean that I can program this remote with my current (OEM) '04 remote?

I see a lot of 3 button keys with open, close and alarm disarm.

If i got one of those to replace my old style key would i be able to get it so that the alarm disarm button actually did the boot release instead?!

i am also highly interested in this,
i have the full 04 key along with the remote, but the switchblade key remotes's fcc and ic numberes arent matching, does this mean those remotes wont work with my car, or can I still buy them and program them myself?

I have an 04, bought the 05-up switchblade key with blank off Ebay (four button remote). I had a local locksmith cut the key (didn't want to trust it to a kid in a hardware store). You need two keys to program the micro chip and one working remote to program the switchblade remote. The seller included the directions for all programming. My total came to about $60. With the remote programming you had to do so many open door, lock unlock things, I felt like I should hop out spin around three times and jump in the other door...but it all worked.

Basically, you have to program the car's ECU to recognize the key to start the car and the remote to open it.

it won't probably work if you've got a different fcc id. it was discussed in one of the switchblade thread.
