05 Key Fob....
okay, I have seen many talking about it here but seen no good answer yet......
Will the 05 key fobs work with 03 and 04 models with the appropriate remote programming? The key cuting part is the easy part, but will the remote work with the current setup we have?

OK, I'm going to sound like an idiot but I just can't figure it out. I know whey you talk about the key fob your talking about the remote key entry device. But what I can't figure out is this 'fob' thing. Is it an acronyn and if so what does fob stand for?
Make fun of my stupidity if you feel the need to... I can take it.

I wouldn't see a problem with the 05 keys working with the 03-04's, they should be very similar if not the same in how to reprogram it. The ONLY difference I could see is if they change something about the key, where the grooves/teeth are and or how it talks to the car (whihch I doubt they would)
When you all are discussing the fob-key, are you meaning the 05's are rumored to have a similar key to the VW's, the switchblade style?

Fob
Basically the dangly bit attached to the key. In the olden days, you know, like a couple decades ago, it'd be just the standard leather bit with the dealership's logo on it, or the shiny metal keychain dangly thing you got. Now it's got all high tech wizbang electronics.
Technically, the Fob is removed from the 05 Key, and integrated into the key itself. The 05 keys would really be Fobless... unless of course you added your own Fob bit, like a remote starter, garage door opener, lucky rabbits foot.
VW Key comparison...
1. A short chain or ribbon attached to a pocket watch and worn hanging in front of the vest or waist.
2. An ornament or seal attached to such a chain or ribbon.

I don't get what the big deal is with retractable keys. You are still going to have your house key dangling besides the key fob. Now, if there is is a unit that can retract / hide your house key(s) also, then I'd be interested.

I personally carry no other keys so this would be a perfect solution (electronic keypad house entry). I would love to see what the other side of that combo-key looks like.
