It's a whole year you could be enjoying an RX-8.

I had to wait 16 months from launch to getting mine and I wish I had got one earlier.

The next one/year/model/version always has an upgrade or two but you could die waiting for the "best" version.

Supposedly, Mazdaspeed version will be out for '06 as well as 5/6spd auto tranny and/or 6spd SMG unit for 238HP models. All this rumoured though.

I was told by a Mazda salesman who was trying to sell me a 04 that there would be no changes on the 05's. True?

I give this about a70% chance of being on the ball but supposedly in the 06' or 07' mazda is going to use an electric motor assisted turbo... essentially the electric motor driving the turbo at low rpms and then letting the motor take over when exhausts starts driving it on its own, essential a "minimal lag" turbo system....

Yup, I've been posting for over a year now that for the 2006 model year RX-8s, Mazda will replace the current 4 speed auto with a 5 speed auto that can handle the revs and power of the high-power 238 bhp engine (and I take that to mean that the low-power 197 bhp will disappear from the North American market). They will also offer a 6 speed SMG gearbox option for 2006. My source was an extremely reliable one with contacts at the highest level within the Mazda engineering and product planning departments in Japan. Aside from the MazdaSpeed RX-8, I wouldn't expect more than minor improvements in the regular Renesis engines.

Regards,
Gordon

Its basically a clutchless manual. Usually they employ fully automatic modes but mechanically they are identical to regular manual transmissions just sans the clutch pedal.

I also read somewhere here that '06 will be the last year before they make any design changes to the body (and, coincidentally, will mark the mid-life of the RX-8). Can't remember who said that, though...

Would that mean that the 06, would be the final maintenance release, and the 07 would be the first true feature release?

That makes sense, especially if they plan to release the MS 8 this comming year.

Depends on how aggressive the controller is, but typically 0-60 and 1/4 times are a little slower (not much). hopefully it'll have launch control like BMW's, and hopefully it's nothing like Toyota's (for the MR-S) which has slow shift times, 300 msec or so; I think BMW's can go as low as 50 msec. An Audi/VW style dsg would be nice too :D

PS 100 posts, lol. I've been here over a year...

No, but the RX8 Series V should have these features when it drops in 2015. :D

Gee and I thought the 2009 was going to be a RX- 10 now it seems it's a RX-14. S'pose they won't use RX-13 cause it's unlucky.

No the rx 13 was only a concept dumby. They used uranium enriched Multitronic dioxanol rotors made of triptonium. Silly that was doomed to fail as we all know the flux matrix was resonanting at 480 ohms when what we wanted was 1200 ohms with a impedance of 12. I thought that was common knowledge. Well im just glad i cleared it up for you.
As we all know the rx14 we be a world renowned marvel with 12 rotors per wheel with, Flame decals per fender flare adding 40 bhp per wheel. "depending on what flame color you get" We all know blue flames are more intense so its 50 bhp. Also for added fuel economey they will know make the car in shape of just 1 big rotor instead of just hiding them everywhere like the infereior rx8 model; Plus they will include the optional Tricycle I hear that they are using light weight flywheels on it so it gets 50 mpg. Just some info for you guys.

Not quite clutchless - a SMG (BMW's label for this type of gearbox, for sequential manual gearbox) has a regular clutch - but it has no clutch pedal. As you say, it's a regular manual transmission (with clutch), but it has hydraulic servos controlling the clutch and shifters, which are controlled by a computer.

I would expect a SMG version of a car with launch control to be just as quick as the regular manual transmission version of the same car driven by an expert driver (read, the SMG would be quicker than most of us driving a manual! )

Regards,
Gordon
