'07 RX-8 Nav system. Voice control?
I've got an '07 RX-8 GT with Nav. There's a "voice" button, and it beeps after pressing it, but the system is not responding to any of the commands listed in the little (generic) quick reference guide.
The downloadable manual says nothing about voice recognition, other than some errant references in the margins of the document that are found when performing a search within Adobe Reader.
Does this Nav system indeed have voice recognition? Or is the button just there to toggle the voice guidance *from* the system on and off?
I'm just wondering if my cabin microphone is disconnected or something, or if the capability just doesn't exist within the system at all.

Not familiar with the 07 system. However on my 04 the Voice button is used to manually trigger the voice commands. I would assume the voice INPUT is only active when inputting a destination. I may be wrong though.

the voice rec system is not the "voice" button. The button for it would be to the left of the dsc button, if you have it. the "voice" button just, um, either repeats what she just said or turns off the voice. check your manual, it's in there. i was disappointed too.

Thanks everyone.
I didn't expect there to be voice recognition, but the quick reference card that came with the car for the nav system reads:
Unfortunately, I do not have a voice button on my steering wheel. I'm not sure which vehicles to which these instructions apply, but evidently not mine.

Voice Commands
To aid and assist drivers by providing the ability to interact with the navigation system, the vehicle is equipped with voice recognition capability. To engage the voice command system, the VOICE switch located on the steering wheel must be pressed each time a command is spoken. Below is a list of some sample and most commonly used commands...
"Zoom In"
"Gas"
"I'm Hungry"
"Previous Destination"
(etc.)

agreed. i thought i'd like the arrow only pointing north if i was going north, south if i was going south, east if i was going east and west if i was going west, but no, it's retarded. maybe there's a way to change that? and it's pretty much a pain to set route and options. it still beats bmw's nav though, in my opinion.

To change the the arrrow from pointing north you just push the joystick and then move up to the north icon in the upper left of the screen. then click on it to change the arrow to point forward only. This option will cause the map to move around the arrow as you drive. I personally like it facing north.
