09 r3
Hey gents, just about ready to pull the trigger on an 09 R3, just going back & forth on the blue and black colors.
I'd like to put in some aftermarket springs & front/rear sway bars and also an air intake/box & cat-back exhaust. I know there's quite a few options out there, so could anyone recommend some of the top-of-the-line products? I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Are you looking to increase performance? Because you can't really do much without forced induction. Cheap bolt-on mods don't do much with this car, it's pretty much maxed out from the factory.
As far as handling goes, really, unless you go to the track on weekends or autocross the stock suspension is more than good enough. Handling is pretty damn good, with an R3 you'd have to be a really good driver to want more.
But it's really all about the fun, and you won't find another car in this price range that is more fun to drive!

keep your eyes open for the group buys 4/4/09, one of the most necessary mods you can have will be posted there!
Aside from that, invest in coilovers, some springs "may" leave you a bit disappointed.
I recommend a drop in air filter, period. Congrats on the sexy 09!

I have an 08 40th but I drove the R3 the other day and it felt and sounded damn good for stock I think I would just drive it stock for awhile and wait and see what comes out for that car a little later down the road. By the way I have the mazdaspeed exhaust and the R3 was pretty close if not the same in sound.

The R3 has a relocated oil filter (no more burning hands) and dipstick for easier access (and a cute little cover that tells you what your oil level means.) The Strut tower bar has been upgraded and I believe the Power Steering has also been updated. Mazda is DEFINITELY making improvements to the first generation! The R3 I test drive a month ago sounded the same to me as first gen stock, I didn't open it up completely because it had little miles and not broken in yet.
