1/4 Mile Times

1/4 Mile Times
I want to do some information gathering on how muhc time is lost on the quarter mile at different elevations.
Give your best 1/4 mile times and elevation for stock RX-8 6Spd Manuale(Intake and Exhaust mods O.K.)
For example: I live in Denver 1 mile above sea level and run 16.3, K&N Intake and
Custom Magnaflow Exhaust.

I don't care what one person did. I tried to set up this thread so it would be easy to follow, as little smart @$$ comments as possible and just to post elevation and times. I want to figure about how much time/power is lost from sea level to a mile above.
Yes the car is a great track car but as I don't know of any tracks in Colorado that you can take your car to, the drag strip is the next best thing. Usaully if your going to street race it's on a straight road. Unless you head up to the mountains.
Time lost in the 1/4 for altitude, or time WASTED screwing around running 1/4 mile runs in a car designed for twisty roads?

My suggestion to you would be to start a thread in the Competition Racing section. Call it the RX-8 1/4 mile Database or something along those lines. If you start it just make sure you ask for time slips or at least their 60', trap speed, and ET.
I've seen probably half a dozen RX-8s run at a nearby strip and they run anywhere from 15.1 to 15.4 on a good run, some with at least exhaust. The elevation is about 700 ft.

Thanks. Like Raptor said, it is the Mazdaspeed bodykit. I purchased it straight from the dealer (when I lived in Texas). I've had it for over 3 years, so I don't remember the exact price.

I posted this comment in another thread with the subject of 1/4 mile times:
First off the 8 is not a 1/4 mile car (duh). But the 1/4, or more specifically, acceleration of the 8, does need addressing. This is only one aspect of an extremely capable streetable track chasis.
And being on that note ...
... I've never said this out loud but, I believe the 8 can run a high 13s in the 1/4 WITH full interior.
Polak ran a 14.58 stock and being new to drag racing. It has been quoted numerous times that a flywheel on the 8 can shave .3-.4 seconds off the 1/4 alone. Also Road and Track (or some mag) ran the 8 after some miles were on it and got a better time. If I recall correctly they ran a 14.6 compared to the original 15.1. Let's just say .1 second drop due to age on the Renesis (puberty???). Charles stated in a thread I've read concerning this similar subject about how he's confident that the RB flash can take another .2 seconds off. Taking this into account, and if Polak had these mods, he would of maybe ran a 13.9 run.
YES, this is all in theory, BUT with stock wheels and street tires, springs and shocks upgrade, sway bars, flywheel, pulley, CAI, hi flow/mid pipe, catback, RB flash, and a little skill, the 8 should do high 13s IMHO.
As 8 drivers, I think we are our own worst enemies sometimes. We say the 8 is slow on the straights and take them in the twisties. The 8 is slow compared to some other cars out there, but it aint THAT slow. The twisties are the 8's strength and beating faster cars in the turns is a must, BUT you still need enough speed through the straight to keep faster cars from making up the distance the 8 got on them in the twisties. It's all about average speed throughout the course in it's entirety.
.... this all depends on the track though of course. If there are a lot of straights and up hill climbs then the 8 won't do so well. If the course is flat and twistie, the 8 would give most cars hell.

I completely agree with Crimson-Rain that,
The 8 accelerates quickly. From my experience while at the drag strip I accelerated faster than a WRX, SRT4. They didn't start pulling on me till midway through. (keep in mind that this is high altitude and it has little effect on turbo cars) So if I accelerate faster than these cars a mile above sea level than at sea level the 8 should easily beat these cars and run better than 14.6. About what the SRT-4 ran in Denver with minor mods.
Also,
is also another true statment that crimson made. A V6 mustang (my sisters car) and a V6 Comaro ( My bros GF's car) kills the 8 on take off but when I hit 3rd I fly past them.
With that said, the 8 is no doubt an excellent track car but also has great potential for being an excellent Drag car. Throwing on a Turbo kit in a year and I plan to be easily hitting high fourteens.
For only being a 1.3L non-turbo car the 8 has *****.

it'll be REAALLLLLYY hard to touch 14.0/13.9 without NOS or major work done (ie, major weight taking from the car.)
I on the other hard will like to see some of our turbo/supercharge members hit the 1/4 up and post times, a guy a long time ago did a 13.1 with the greddy turbo kit (plus some extras to help it.)
