1/4 mile times?

Hi all, my Stang is in the body shop thanks to my girl's next door neighbor backing into her. My girl has lent me her RX-8 and I'm loving this little car. I never had a manual before I got my Mustang and my girl always drove manuals. So she taught me on her 99 Firebird then on her 04 RX-8. Talk about a world of difference between the two, her Firepigeon is a cow compared to the RX-8. The RX is fast enough but handles like it's on rails! Gas mileage is another issue. This baby drinks a lot when you get on her, worse than my GT but sure is fun to drive.

Every now and then I'll take my Mustang to Englishtown Raceway and do the 1/4 mile, now I'm no pro and my car is my everyday drive w/ minor performance upgrades. I always try to get her to bring her RX which is completely stock but she's afraid of embarrassing herself cause she doesn't feel the car is fast enough. So I was wondering for those who are stock what numbers they are putting down? This way I can show her some numbers and get her to the track with me.

How in the world do you shut off that damn TCS?

Thanks all!

I'm at www.themustangsource.com under the same screen name.

I remember reading a stock 8 is like 14.9

If you ever come down and want to run your 8 atco, I'd go with ya...

Fastest stock time (with a slip) on here is 14.5, otherwise most are high 14's or low 15's...very hard car to launch right. I'm sure there aren't as many taking their 8's to the strips as Mustang owners though.

Thanks guys, those are not horrible numbers at all. The traction control is a killer on the RX can it be shut off? I found nothing in the manual on how to do it or if it's even possible.

Atco is kinda far especially since I live in Brooklyn but I hear you get plenty or runs in while ETown you're lucky to get 3 on a busy night. I average 5. I'm gonna try Island raceway next, I hear you get a lot of runs but the track isn't as good.

Yeah I've yet to see an RX-8 at the track when I've gone. My first time ever I ran a 16.6 I was so nervous, my legs were pumping and shaking. Definitely a lot of fun and nothing like light to light racing in the streets.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the thread! So with a few simple mods and some track time getting the 8 in the high 13's is possible. Good, I'm fowarding this thread to her right now!

To deactivate the traction control. Hold the DSC button in for several seconds until two orange dash board lights are on at this point the traction control as well as the stability control are disabled until you restart the car. Enjoy.

I wasn't talking about going the supercharger/turbo route or nitrous. Just a simple flashtune, opening the exhaust, a CAI, higher gears and some dr's(which is all relatively inexpensive). How about really low 14's then ? Her's is completely stock! How are you doing on the track?

LOL. Rx-8 and drag racing is like an oxy moron... take it to a road course and you'll fall in love with this car even more.

my best time at a strip was 15.2@ 89mph.

Expect high 14s to low 15s. You'll be one of the slower cars at the strip, but that doesn't mean you can't have a ton of fun. I always have a good time at the strip, the people watching is the best.

it'll take force induction to reach the low 14/high 13 area. one member on this forum ran a 13.1 with a highly tuned turbo (plus he had some experience launching the car.)

I wonder what could be done in the 1/4 with the FEED 4.77. Maybe like a 14.3 best?
I think most of the times you see in the rx-8 is all on street tires. I haven't read any place about someone putting some slicks on and shooting out of the dig at like 7k

Yeah the fastest is 13.1, think Adrian...

I was racing some turbo truck, he said he ran mid 13's, and I smoked him twice... I'm not an expert on shifting yet.

Etown isn't too far away, maybe an hour+.. just figured you'd be close by if you were going there and could go down to Atco.

I dont think its possible to even get in the 13's (or even 13.9) with those type of mods.. unless youre going to do some sort of port job or FI... or strip teh car...

Well, to get 13s with those mods, I think it's possible if the car is stripped of a lot of weight (insulation, passenger and rear seats, A/C, moonroof, audio system, leather, smaller/lighter wheels, head lamps, tail lamps, hood, trunk, doors, etc.). Just playing around~

Inspired by this classic article from Sport Compact Car. Hahaha!

Sorry man, but that's for the average RX-8 driver. We know of only a couple RX-8s getting near mag times. Just about everyone else runs high 14s and low 15s, even good drivers.

At the strip or is that a Gtech number. Your trap speed is way low...

you must have some realllly fat tires lol

on my stock tires i ran 15.2 at 91mph, and with my wider tires 235 instead of 225 i ran 89mph with the same time.

even with the same 60ft time too.

I think i have gotten 18 sec quarter mile with my auto RX-8 but that's before I found out I had a bad cat... I had cat replaced and haven't been out there yet. I can't bear another embarrasement like that again. Instead I will take my GTI out there

This was at the strip, I noticed how low the trap speed was too. I got a great launch (.15 reaction) but I think I wasnt hitting the optimum shift points down the line. I was literally red lining each gear.
