105 in a 65!
Ohio is notoriously known for it's use of Laser detection, so I figured I was pretty safe with my V1, Blinder laser jammers, and Veil coating. It's saved my butt many times already. I don't speed that often and do it only when the road is clear and the weatheris good. Anyhow, I got nailed today going 105 in a 65 by aircraft surveillance. What a bummer! I'm pretty surprised though that the ticket was only $180 and no mandatory appearance is court is necessary. I do plan on fighting it in court since I honestly don't beleive I was going quite that fast. have any of you guys had experience with aircraft surveillance type speed tickets and any suggestions on how to fight this one in court?

Ok if they are above you... how did they get your lisene plate number? not like we have lisence plates on our roofs now?? That and how do they know it was you driving?? I'm assuming here that you got this ticket in the mail most likely with a silly lil picture of your car from above? Now if you got pulled over miles up on the road by a officer then i'd say screw be lucky your not in jail for "Recless speeding" and pay the ticket my 2 cents atleast.

I needed a lawyer for this ticket because ironically, the day before I got it I had gone to court for another speeding ticket. I had gotten 30 day supervision for that one, so I would've been nailed for both. The swines never showed to court so it was dismissed.

I got busted once in Delaware many years ago. Iwas driving UNDER the speed limit but they saw my NC plates and figured they had a sucker on the hook. Thats part of why I moved away form Ohio as soon as I could.
I paid the ticket, it wasn't worth my time to fight it. But in turn I made a pretty good dollar back by collecting a rather heavy piece of metal that belonged to the county, and resold it as scrap. I figured since they weren't operating under any form of law allowed in the US why should I? That was a long time ago, something I would never do again.
On the other hand 105 is a bit excessive. If you want to spend a lot of money you can get out of it.

I'd recommend paying it. Maybe you weren't going 105, but were you within the speed limit? Argue it down to 95 mph and you might get a $170 fine instead of $180, but they still have you.
A friend got lasered in Ohio in the mid-90s, 65 in a 55 (double nickle days). The fine was somewhere around $80. The ticket had a price list on it. Had he been doing 100, it would have only been $20 more. A couple of years later I got lasered for 76 in a 65 (post-double nickle). $95. I think 100 still would have only been a little bit more, but I don't remember the increment the way I do from my friend's ticket.
If you go to court, the penalty can be whatever the judge decides, including jail time. It's one of those deal or no-deal things. Keep in mind that for an airborne operation like what RX26b described a) the cops will show up, and b) they'll have their testimony all polished.

any idea how many point this might be? Is the amount of points based on the speed or the charge. I noticed that the officer didn't check off the "reckless driving" box (luckily) so I'm not quite sure how many points this might end up being?

I got a ticket for going 32 in an unmarked 20 mph zone (the last speed limit sign I passed was marked 45 mph) and the cop gave me a stern lecture. My wife got a ticket for going 90 in a 55 and the state cop apologized for giving it to her. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't have been there.
I drive like a grandmother now.

The lease agreement on the airplane (as many do) identified that the leasee was responsibile for losses due to improper usage. That the plane was subpeoanaed and had the defendent won his has, the county would be footing the bill for lost rental time on a $125/hour aircraft.
At first the subpeona was challenged but had to be accepted. A sherriff was dispatched to quarantine the aircraft to be held as evidence - thats when the owner of the aircraft showed the sherriff the contract and was happy to oblige. The sherriff informed the DA.
Later that day the DA chose to drop all charges.

His lawyer had various tactics to prolong the case since if he lost (they would have certainly appealed) the Judge would have given him a maximum penalty - he was already charged with Careless & Wreckless on top of Speeding.

I used to live in Ohio, in Delaware as a matter of fact (someone above mentioned it). Several years ago, 0-25mph over was 2pts, then you went into the 4pt range. Not sure if it's changed, but I'm sure that it still goes by speed. At the 25 mile mark, he could easily have tagged you for reckless op, so you're lucky on that count. Reckless op is a mandatory 6pts. If you can get off with 4 and $180, I would pay it and move on.
I guess that speeding offenses are a good way to pull over a bunch of people and run licenses and see what offenders are out there, but it sure is a pain to the innocent folks...

$180 really isn't bad for 105, I'd just pay it.
I was pulled over in my FD in the Seattle area going 105 in a 60 and the ticket was $350. That was 5 or 6 years ago too. I feel that I should explain since I don't usually drive that fast. It was 2 AM on a Tuesday morning, I had just left work after putting in a long 15 hour day to meet a deadline. I got on the freeway and it was completely empty so I took it up to about 115 and then immediately started decelerating, that's when I saw the police car sitting on the side of the freeway. I pulled over right in front of the car, before the officer even put on her lights. When she walked up to the car I had both hands on the wheel with my license, insurance and registration in hand. The officer was actually very nice, didn't give me a wreckless, even told me she liked my car.
Anyway, the next day at work, I was telling my coworkers, when a woman that I worked with told of a lawyer she knew that speciallized in traffic tickets. I called her, she said it wouldn't be a problem getting me out of the ticket and to send her the ticket and a check for $300. I did so and a month later I got a congrats letter from her that I won my case. Easy as that! Saved me $50 and kept any points off my license. To tell the truth though, I felt a little guilty for abusing the system like that.

In NJ it's not the ticket $88 that kills you. It's the $400/yr insurance surcharge for 3.5 years. $1488 ticket, thank you officer, don't I even get a kiss?
But, yes $180 ain't that bad? My wife got pulled over for 75 in a 55, in connecticut. $198 I was like WTH, there's a 1 infront of this. It was a total speed trap too, down hill just across the Mass/Conn border speed limit drops to 55 from 65. Have a nice Thanks Giving mame.
It's really not that hard to hit 105 in the 8. We did it by accident testing the car out before we bought it.

I just called the court and they basically said that 30+ over the limit is an automatic 4 points. Looks like I'll be taking this one to court and pleading with the judge to reduce the points at least, especially since my record is spotless.

Just got off the phone with Geico. They said that since there was no "reckless driving" charge and no bodily injury or property damage occured, there won't be any rate increase with my insurance policy. I was amazed to hear that because I thought that my policy would definitly get more expensive after a 105/65.
