For 10K above the cost of a new loaded rx8 you can get a very nice used boxster s or a early 996. there are lots of well cared for examples out there. Your depreciation will be MUCH lower on the P-cars and the 10K in mods will, at best, get 5K if u take them all off and resell. and removing a turbo is not exactly a simple procedure. I like the rx8 a lot but the P-cars are faster, sound better, (depending on which model/suspension package) handle better, at least as reliable. If you are into impressing people (terrible reason to get a car but it matters to some) the P-cars are better in that regard also.

A 911 may depreciate slower, but I don't know about a boxster... similar to the 924/944, they aren't viewed as true porsches by many hard core porsche fanatics.

Having owned 3 porsches before, I would argue that the Rx-8 is a more reliable car. At one point I was spending about $500 every other month to fix crap that was breaking. Though I need to add another two years to the age of my Rx-8 for a fair comparison.

how could I NOT bring it up? i did say, "IMHO," no? is there rules on what suggestions i am limited to write about? obviously the OP is curious about suspension, too. he did write back asking, did he not?

if you just shut up and read a bit, you'll see the above posters are ALL recommending what they consider sound and positive mods.

pfft. **** off and take a cold shower tough-guy. you're flexing at the wrong tree. by trying to engage me in anykind of "e-tussle" you're bringing a knife to a gun fight.

To be honest, I like what your planing but you can buy used RX-8 for a song. Why by new when you plan to mod it and kill a good portion of the warranty. The rotary is a strong engine and will deliver good power right up to the end so buying a used one with 10K makes a lot of sense for what your looking to do. Get a 05 most the bugs had been worked out by then.

Indeed. I'd get the Sport model if you are going to mod it like crazy. It's starting from scratch.. In a way.. I myself have the Sport model and don't mind having it at all..

Speaking of 20B. Has anyone successfully made a 20b out of the renesis?

I am surprised how many people are telling him to get a different car.

Why can't this car be fast in a straight line and turn too?

If he wants to do track days, it is certainly a good platform.

Only other two cars I would look at personally would be a used FD or an Elise.

GTO's, Mustangs, 350Z's may have good power, but they are heavy. Something I personally do not sit well with.

On that note, I would agree with those that say get no more than a sport model (I have a base), keep it for 6 months, learn the car, do a couple of track days, and figure out what you like and do not like about it.

The Mazsport kit is certainly the way to go for big power for your 10k and is available today, which is a strong statement. This is without a doubt a chassis in need of more power.

We run on stop ligths with Evo's, STi's, 350Z, mustangs, etc etc.
swap a 20B + turbo and they would cry......................
I'm runing mine with 8 psi of boost and give me over 410 hp to the wheels,
with 16 psi we have over 500 hp but is easier to broke the tranny..................

the big problem is that you would spend more than 10K.

good luck!

...why would you say that? Great power, very reliable, easy to fix, many parts for it, not much heavier at all so it wont affect weight balance adversely...i dont see the problem.

How much power do you get from an NA 3 rotor engine?

Did you use the Renesis to make your 3 rotor engine?

^ no they used a 3 rotor cosmo if i'm not mistaken. there is a huge thread on the PR 3 rotors on the horspower upgrade section.

as for the LS1 swap, why would you want to suck the soul out of an RX8 for a little more bang?

personally, i'd go with an 07 exactly like you want, make sure you break it in just like racing beat says. Get used to it for a few months, start working on your suspension setup and pray Richard Paul is done with his Supercharger by then.

you can't make a 3 rotor from a renesis. you have to buy an engine from a 30 year old car....

it would no longer be the same car. im not saying an LS1 is a bad engine because it is a good one, but it wouldnt be the right engine for this car. some would say it takes out the rx-8s soul. also putting in a brand new car may be considered a major swap especially because we dont have anyone on here who has done one

Hmmm... is it just not feasible because of cost or mechanically not possible?

I would love to one day drop a 3 rotor NA engine in my car once the original engines starts to give in.

a 20B with NA is on the 320-340 hp range,
but with a turbo is more fun and is the way to produce big hp gains.

Little more? Thats a lot more bang for the buck. Its a better engine overall. I can understand if you want to "keep the 8s soul", but if you really want power....get it. Thats exactly what you will get with that engine swap.

As for people who on here with that swap, i plan on swapping the stock engine for an LS1 once I get a few grand under my belt and a reliable DD.

How much would swapping in a NA 20B cost with labor and tune..etc?

Depends on your mechanical skills.........................
There is a lot a custom works that if you can do it by yourself
it would cost nothing. Also in time cost you less sometimes if you give work to people
that don't do their work to fast.
There is not a fix price for a swap, all depends on the parts selected,
but a conservative number is near $13,000 for NA and over $17,000 for a turbo set up.

Manuel
