125 Max Speed??

Early morning, headed towards the beach, speeding down the road, driving a lovely rx8, road empty, ITS ON.

Time to test her out.

Thats what I did, stepped on the pedal and took off.

Going up and up, flipping from 3rd to 4th at 119 mph the digital speedometer SLOWLY climed to 124 and then hit 125 when i hear "vrmmmmmmmm" and the RPM dropping and the speed dropping to 123 again. What the hell?!

A govner? 125 mph? Again I try.. again it happens, and again and again.

I'm only at 3-4(possible a bit more then 4000 rmps) in 4th gear but i can't increase my speed?

Is it true? Can we automatic rx8 owners only go 125? Please let me know if its just me..

Seriously... Why (on public roads) would you need to go any faster?

Well, I won't be taking my auto to the limiter then--I hit 145 on a toll road in my FD one time--never did it again--its pretty hairy; everything is twitchy--I didn't have a spoiler on mine either so downforce was minimal.

So you hit 145 in your AUTO rx8? How is that possible?

Why did i need to go fast you ask? Cuz i'm 18, feelin good, headed to the beach after graduation!

O yea, and open road in a rx8 :p no other reason is needed.

So as i asked earlier, how could you hit 145?

On any German highway you can go as fast as you want, no speed limit. Why? Because poeple want to go fast, that is why fast cars are built. So don't ask him why. He bought rx8 not a kia...

It's still unsafe. I'm 19 and when I graduated last year I was in my friend's M3, but hell, I didn't need to do over twice the speed limit to celebrate...

He mentions he was in his FD '7 when he hit 145, not his '8.

I was assuming he wasn't in Germany. If he is somewhere where it doesn't matter then I agree completely. If he was racing on a track and wanted to go faster, I agree completely.

My point was that if he's doing 125 on public roads where others are driving Kias with pizza cutter tires and don't know what to do when they see a car coming up behind them doing twice their speed, then why risk injuring a bystander?

Don't get me wrong. I understand the thrill of speed. I too was invincible when I was younger and drove my car as fast as it would go just because I wanted to without regard for others. Eventually you learn that you're not invincible and others can get hurt, and you can die young, and that death really sucks for those affected by it.

So, sorry if I wasn't being clear.

Deja vu. We've had the German speed limit discussion before that's BS. Germany does have speed limits on all highways except portions of the Autobahn (many parts of the Autobahn now have speed limits).

Gordon

Well to get you informed Autobahn means HIghway... Got it? And yes there are sections of Highways (Autobahn) in Germany with speed limit, for most part there is none. Been there, drove there, so dont try to explain to me how it works.

18? Driving over 100mph on public roads? Sounds like an obituary to me. SLOW DOWN. You are not as good of a driver, nor as experienced as you think. And, you are breaking the law to a very large degree. I would call you in to the authorities in a nanosecond if I saw you doing this. Think about other people, like John Q. Public, in his car, or walking along the side of the road, or your parents, other family members, friends. If you kill yourself or some one else, the effects are tragic.

Additionally, just because the car can go way over 100mph doesn't mean you have to drive it at that speed. It's most fun in second and third gear, not at some ridiculously dangerous high speed where anything other than extremely subtle inputs can get you into trouble way faster than you can handle.

Let me break it down for you like this:

Automatic RX-8: 125 mph is the governor

Manual RX-8: 155 mph is the governor

Tip: You should have bought the 6-Speed Manual

You are overreacting. But you have a point here, I am sure he is not as good and as experienced as he thinks he is, not at 18. But he wrote he tried his rx8 on an empty highway. I did that too, many times, all the way up to 150mph, it is not that scary. You just need to get used to it... unless you are afraid, then you might hurt somebody.

I drove from LA, CA. to Spokane, WA. once when I was 19. I did the normally 24 hour drive in 16 hours... I was driving about 125-145 mph most of the way. I even had time to stop at Denny's to eat a meal and stretch my legs and to go to Baskin Robins for ice cream in Bend, OR. Some of us are better drivers even in our youth than some people will ever be.

I am not saying that young people don't cause accidents but I am saying that some of the roads with speed limits in this country are a joke. And up here where I live now most of the people couldn't read a speed limit sign if their lives depended on it... driving 30 in a 45 mph zone. Being from LA I know what the fast lane is for.

I was even pulled over for doing in excess of 160 mph about 5 years ago (although I don't drive that fast now).

Yes ... we're all real impressed with the morons who endanger innocent lives by exceeding posted speed limits on public thoroughfares. Clearly all you morons are much more intelligent than the rest of us and therefore rules simply shouldn't apply to you.

We should all have such carefree and irresponsible lives. Must be wonderful to have no consideration for other citizens who expect to be able to use those same roads without having their lives threatened by the likes of you.

Some people never will get it .... GEEEZ

If everyone else could figure out how the hell to obey the rest of the rules of the road I think we could have an autobahn type of system in the US. But there are too many idiots out there that think the fast lane is a right and not a privelage.

As far as idiots go I guess you can call me whatever you want but I recommend that you stay in the slow lane if you can't handle the speed. Oh and why don't you just settle on a nice Toyota Camry or Honda Prelude. Those are nice driving cars that don't beg to be driven faster than the posted speed limit.

And I guess you didn't ask me the conditions of my drive... I am a good driver and now at 32 years old I can say that I have only been the driver in two accidents. One where an idiot popped his car in reverse at a street light while the light was red and backed into the front of my car (we had been stopped for over 30 seconds). And the second when I was obeying the speed limit but the person in the right-hand lane decided to change into my lane and pulled out in front of me while I was going 40 mph, from a dead stop. I couldn't avoid them. Both accidents happened more than ten years ago.

I have never been accused of driving out of control. I just like speed.

Try driving 160 here in Cali... that's a felony. They take your car away, and a jail sentence of about 10 years.
