Sometime inthe future Im going to get the limiter removedfrom my automatic --if its possible. I havent gone125 for a whilein my automatic but fromwhat I can remember Ithink 125 @ 4th gear is under 6000 RPMs so theres probablyenough left for at least 132mph.

I think that as long the road is relatively uncrowded and you are in the fast lane you can easily go 100+. If some idiot jumps onto the lane, the RX-8 has great brakes . I think the limiter on the Auto RX-8 is stupid. I might as well get another auto car that has a faster limit(G-35,TL,etc). Is there a way to remove such a speed governor? BTW i would love to learn to drive manual, but have no way how, since I don't know anyone who lives near who drives stick. Plus it seems an inconveniance.

It's a f'ing PUBLIC HIGHWAY.

It's not your personal test track.

Those "idiots" have every right to be there. They should not have to rely on your "great brakes" to avoid being hurt or killed by immature, arrogant, self-centered fools.

Grow up before you kill someone, mmmmK?

I don’t know what’s up with your auto dude but I most def have been past 125mph before and had my girlfriend in the car to proof it. I was on RT 50 in Maryland at 6am so I decided to hit the gas while no one was on the road. If I remember correctly I hit 136mph right before she looked over at my speed and then told me to slow my a$$ down! I did and don't think I will be going that speed again. I have an earlier auto so maybe the governor is different. But I was most def past 125mph!

As for the tires ----> http://www.bridgestonetire.com/dpp/ <---

I believe are tire rating is W for the 18 inch wheels and that means tire speed is limited to 168mph on the RX8's tires and neither the Auto or the Manual can go that fast.

Some of you guys need to remember that a drivers license is a privilege and not a right. You can't go around doing stuff like this on public roads. Sometimes it sucks having a car that can do so much but not being able to LEGALLY experience it. That's what the tracks are for and not our roads.

I've done 145 (don't worry your little heads...it was totally safe) but then i ran out of room and had to slow down..LOL! I'm going to try for faster, but I haven't had time.

All you stressed out East Coasters need to realize that out here in the great Western wilderness we have some empty highways where no one is on the road for 5-20 mile stretches. I think I would be more worried about Bambi. And you can take your cars to the track and test them to discover your limits or be like me and find a lonely unoccupied road to do it. Whatever. But I have been driving for a long time and have never been in an accident that was my fault or where unsafe speed was a factor. You sound like I am doing 100+ in a school zone where their letting the kids out. I would never do such a thing.

I will admit that I have raced down Topanga Canyon to Malibu or Decker Rd. heading towards Pt. Mugu but that was more than 10 years ago. I am a good and safe driver. If you were on the road next to me in traffic you would never know I was a street racer. Actually I am no longer a street racer having given it up after my big ticket. There were only two people who were risking their lives that day and that was me and the guy driving the Mustang. So enough said.

Drivenbyspeed, I know that you are still young and though I don't pass judgement on you for driving fast, it would make me feel better if I knew that you had professional training before attempting such speed. If your car was to get out of control at speeds above 80 mph you are putting your life on the line. Just be carefull.

relax

some of the old maids here need to calm down. sit down with the radio and listen to some oldies like before television. take some tranquilizers if you have to. just relax. you think you're being responsible but really you're just being absurdly conservative. why do you feel the need to be so restrictive? you think speed is that unsafe, so why don't you just walk? put a rollcage in your car if you're so concerned. walk around in knight's armor. check over your shoulder every 30 seconds. I really don't care, just save the leash for yourself if you like it so much. But don't go around pressing your rules on people just because you have your panties in a bunch.

I don't usually say things like this to people but your a idiot. I would love to drive around at 100+ on the roads at times but I don't because I know that it's not safe. And I'm not talking about safe for me but for others. You can talk about "wide open" all you want but you don't know for absolutely sure that someone isn't around. You don't know if an animal or something could run out on the road. And unless the west coast roads are way better than the ones we have you don't know if the road is always in the kind of condition to run that speed on. And it's not or rules you idiot it's the LAW! I didn't make the speed limit on that road. I hope that you don't get yourself or another person killed. But I do hope you get busted for breaking the law and lose your license you punk.

Re: relax

Then why don't you save up more money and buy a true sports car if you want to go fast? I would think you're driving pretty slow if you had to go against my G35 Coupe. I would ask you to pull to the right and drive safer, since I "can" go faster than you.

Since you're such a young person at heart... leave that seatbelt off too... and be sure to express your youthfulness by going super fast on the freeway at 3am and see how far that'll take you.

/end sarcasm

yeah....all those animals running loose on freeways...better watch out for that circus jailbreak. oh, and last time i checked laws were rules. maybe you should look it up in the dictionary. And ever hear of civil disobedience? I doubt it, since you sound like just a follower "...it's the LAW"! like you've never broken a law. The difference between me and you is you probably did it because it served your whim and I disagree with it on principle. grow a brain and think for yourself, OR how bout I make up some of my own laws and make you my bitch?

Are you equating being young with being stupid? very wise of you, did you learn that in your many years o' wise one? I very much believe in seatbelts, but those are also a personal decision. Are you going to tell me now that "its the law"? I don't do it because it's the law, not all laws are to be followed. Where does the law originate? Is it a natural law? Or did it come from the minds' of a group of extremely conservative people who happened to think it was a good idea? You always cross the street in a crosswalk? That is the law, of course. someone somewhere thought it was necessary to control the way people crossed the street. remember that next time you jaywalk, remember to feel like a criminal for crossing the street in a manner other than directed. Now you're a criminal, just like me -only you didn't even realize it in your 'wisdom' --

Come to LA, drive from the 405 freeway from Malibu to Newport beach at 3pm weekday everyday, with your manual RX-8... Try that for one year, and if you still think it's BETTER than automatic RX-8.

BTW, I have owned manual CRX and now an AT RX-8. So I do know both sides of it. It's all a matter of preference... sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I don't. My mom has the G35 AT that I drive sometimes, and I'm pretty sure that car can go a lot faster than any RX-8 Manual stock. Big frickin deal.. it's all cars to me. Who are you trying to convince that driving manual is the way to go? So are you telling us that a Manual civic DX is better than a AT RX-8?
yes i am. at least there is an inherent nobility in driving the civic dx. obviously you bought you're 8 for the wrong reasons, probably because you're a pretentious *** who thought it was cool. guess what? that car's not for you, it's a shame mazda didn't exclude the likes of you by making all 8's m/t. After all, 'its all cars to you' .
I live in Houston and we have traffic that's hell, in hot weather too. So boohoo. save your whining for someone else. I don't take the easy way out Why don't you take a cab to work if you don't want to drive.
p.s. bring on your at 8 or your g35, both can be toasted by a mt 8

It's not so much WHAT some of you are doing, it's the ATTITUDE you're doing it with:

"...the fast lane you can easily go 100+. If some idiot jumps onto the lane, the RX-8 has great brakes..."

This doesn't imply finding an empty stretch of mid-western highway. This guy is just rolling the dice, hoping no one pulls out in front of him, and BLAMING the "idiots" if they do. He has zero respect or concern for other drivers. He seems to think the public highway is his personal playpen. He does not deserve to be driving at all, let alone driving an 8.

Yes, I speed too. All the time. No, I don't do 145, but I push it a bit on back roads. And I "go with the flow" when in heavy traffic, rather than obey the letter of the law, as it's safer to do what people expect - even if that risks a ticket.

But I always, ALWAYS give first priority to The Other Guy when I do it. I don't take a corner fast unless I KNOW I can stop in time if someone is broken down just around the bend. If I come to a one-lane bridge, I ALWAYS stop and let the other guy go first - even if I have to come to a hard stop. I slow down for interesections since I know people deciding whether to pull out or not expect me to be doing 40, not 75. Etc. Etc.

The rights and safety of John Q. Public always, ALWAYS come first. The driving pubic should never have to compensate for your sporty driving, and to expect them to do so is just plain arrogant.

Besides, it's much more fun to respect them as fellow drivers rather than view them as impersonal obstacles. You start to feel protective of them somehow, like they're your responsibility to keep safe - which, in a way, they are.

It really is easy to go 100+. Especially on the Florida Turnpike. Most other traffic is going easily 85. Ive never been up to 100, but I know it wouldnt be too challenging. I would slow down whenever there is another car in the area and flash my lights or something to tell him not to pass. And by the way, I think they need to redo the speed limit. Its 70 on the turnpike, but most drive 80. 80 seems a much better speed. I would say that conservative drivers that go at less than 60 are more of a threat on the road.

Wow, there are some really arrogant stupid people posting on this thread.

Are you gonna tell me now that laws are totally subjective, up for open interpretation by all citizens, "meant to be broken", and anarchy is cool?

Please leave the country and move to Iraq, where you can appreciate what anarchy is all about.

Laws are only made by conservative politicians? I believe you actually said that in your post. It's so retarded and openly partisan that I don't think I can really respond to it constructively. Have a nice day hippy. Good luck picking up chicks in your high school with your big ANARCHY -A on your chest. Hope it works out for you.

God I love teen angst. Sigh.

That much I agree with (Edit: though not the " they deserve whatever is coming to them" part). I think it's always safest to do what everyone else is doing, even though that sounds lemming-like. I know a police officer isn't going to accept "but officer, everyone else was speeding too!" as an excuse though, lol...

But yes, it might be almost as dangerous to do 60 when everyone is doing 80... as doing 100 in that same traffic. Almost.

Still, if you raise it to 80, everyone will do 100, lol...

sorry, but as a BMW lover and owner several times over, i gotta call this one out. the M3 is not (in its current form) a sport sedan by any means. It is a 2 door, 4 seat, GT car.

The M5, on the other hand, is the ULTIMATE sport sedan. In E49 form, it was one of the best handling cars on the road (and yes, im comparing it with porsches and the like). The E60 M5, which is due for release next year, will be a monster. It will have a ultra high power & high torque, high revving engine, and it will improve on the world class handling that the previous M5 had. If the E60 530ia that my family has is any indication of the future of the M5, it will be almost as orgasmic as opening the 8 up to redline and hearing the beep (over and over and over and over and over again)

Um, yeah. Happens all the time. Try avoiding a deer that jumps out in front of you at 130 mph. You may avoid it, but you won't live to tell about it.

If you only knew how many laws were passed only to serve the interest of the ones who passed them, you would have a different opinion. I guess you still believe that politicians care about the welfare of the society... And dont send him to Iraq, the anarchy there started after some "wise politicians" sent somebody else's kids to die there for.... hmm for what?

Speed limits were just started by a bunch of stupid politicians who never even reviewed the area before putting in the signs. I KNOW that 85 is quite a safe speed in most 65 mph areas. Dont give me bullshit about speed limits saving lives, look at Germany, they don't have a speed limit on the highway, and they have less accidents than us. Maybe if the idiots too scared to go over the speed limit would stay in the right lane, there would be less problems for the other people going a reasonable speed(not 100, thats only if theres no other cars, I mean like 80-85).
